I have a camrecorder sitting next to me and it has a DV socket.. ive always used usb previously but driver support from JVC is quite frankly crap.

We are planning to get the required cable to hook it up to firewire via its DV socket. I am wondering if this has driver advantages or does windows detect it and set it up instantly like this?

DV and Firewire sounds like a better and more standardised way to do things.

There should already be full firewire support in Windows. I tend to use Firewire with all the DV camerass we have here due to its simplicity and speed. We mostly hook them up to Macs, but its works equally as well on XP. Just get the cable, plug it in and turn the camera on. The program your using to capture the footage should then hopefully see the camera, and your off. :)

agreed, when capturing DV you should always use firewire (a dv port on a camera is just a 4 pin firewire connection, so get a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable)
