Hi guys,

I am considering to move up from my 4790k

My main machine use is Video Editing (Sony Vegas)

This is what I am considering so far: A 5600x with a X570 motherboard.

What are you thoughts please?

Thanks

B550 is more than enough for most unless you want the ability of 2 x m2 pcie4 slots which x 570 offers.

Is a 6 core cpu enough for your video editing needs ?

Hi. Budget is £400-500 (CPU, Ram, graphics card and Motherboard)
X570 board would take too big part of that.
And anyway except for "cut&paste" stream copying bottleneck is in processing speed.
Any effects and encoding are extremely demanding computationally.

In that budget class I doubt you'll be using all pcie4 nvme drives, and probably not more than 2 in total, so b550 seems like the way forward.... You can also get expansion cards to let you add another couple of m.2 drives on in future too (although not with all mobos - would need one with two x16 slots, or at least a spare x4 slot).

If you've already got storage, case, and psu then based on the recommended specs for Vegas (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/gb/specifications/), this is what I would come up with for an AMD build:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £650.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)
Mobo chosen as it seems to be the cheapest b550 in stock with two m.2 slots.

The need for a 4gb gpu is skewing the price a bit, so if you know that the work you do isn't that dependent on the gpu performance then you could probably save some money and go for a 1030 instead.

In order to bring it in under budget I wonder if the best bet is to try and find a second hand ryzen 3600 (saving around £120), and a second hand 1050Ti (saving around £90), putting the budget at roughly £440.

That is going to be a struggle with current graphics card prices.

Should run Vagas well with 16 threads.

Haven't really looked at speed diff, but ram below is 3600C16, admittedly above is 4000 but with much looser timings of C19...the 3600C16 little bit cheaper too.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £88.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)
