Ignore the virgins on this forum, 2nd hand laptop is a great idea. All you need to do is give it a clean down with a wet wipe, stick some hello kitty stickers on it or something equally girly... Install a fresh copy of vista and set her up with an account using her pet name as login (set password to iloveyou123)... Add a picture of you 2 together as the wallpaper... Oh and when you give it to her (the laptop) tell her than it must be referred to as 'lovetop'. Trust me.

I think pink house paint with bad dribbly painted wonky red love hearts would be a good touch... don't forget to turn the volume up to max and break the volume down button... then add to startup the mp3 of the creepy love song you sang out of tune.

Or swap the volume up / down button and then act extra smitten when she turns the volume all the way up because she loves it so much...

Lion king's a good idea. I'm in Leeds so will look at shows on at the grand.
Thanks

edit - It looks like only the Lyceum Theatre in London has showings and half decent seats are £204 for 2. So yeh, it would definitely be a £500 minimum spend including getting there and 1 night.

I might as well book a holiday abroad for that price!

I'm also in Leeds and frequent the theatre. Why on earth are you going to London and not staying local? Leeds, Mancs etc.,? They have amazing offerings. E.g. https://www.slunglow.org/ in Leeds do very intimate small shows. Also Leeds Grand Theatre also have some fantastic shows. https://www.leedsgrandtheatre.com/Online/default.asp

For that £500 you claim on using to London you could have a brilliant time locally, and even go to Tattu in Leeds with at least a few hundred to spare.

And LOL @ the 2nd hand laptop idea. Just give her the damn laptop man.

Spending £500 on the first birthday spent with your girlfriend is setting the bar high for future birthdays.

Just go out somewhere nice for dinner nearby and a theatre show. £150 should cover it. £50 for a set of earrings or a similar keepsake and you're sorted.

As for the laptop, just give it to her without any fanfare.

Depornify it first!

Alternatively place a folder on the Desktop of said Laptop called "Private Stuff do not open" and fill it with "the finest grot" the Internet has to offer and see how long it takes for her to look in the folder then challenge you about it ;)

Me and my other half always do 'events'

We never buy presents, we just spend the money doing something together, like a day/night out in London watching a show and having a nice dinner. Either that or put the money we would have spent towards a holiday.

It's coming up to my girlfriends birthday and have a couple of ideas - She likes the theater, I do not (as i expect most men don't) but happy to go to something. She mentioned a London visit but a night/weekend in London would set me back £500 minimum which I just don't have at the moment.

She doesnt't have a laptop and I have a spare one which I don't use, its a few years old but obviously second hand. How would you feel about being given a second hand laptop/any electronic device for your birthday if you wanted one?
So what did you do in the end? Has her birthday come and gone? Waiting to know what happened ...
