I just switched on my first build for the first time with my windows 7 disc in the dvd drive and am getting this message

"select proper boot device or insert boot media"

I have set the boot priority to optical drive first hard drive second

Is there some other setting in the Bios I need to change before a first boot ?

Thanks for any help

The keyboard is fine, as I set the correct time, and the mouse if fine I have tried a new sata cable to a different sata port on the motherboard as well but still the same.

in the bios it does recognise the optical drive as being there because it gives me this info
Device ATAPI cd-Rom
Vendor tsstcorp cddvd sh-s223c
LBA mode supported
PIO mode 4
Async DMA multiword DMA-2
Ultra DMA ultra DMA-5

type Auto
PIO mode Auto
DMA mode Auto

Its the win7 disc !! I just tried an old win xp disc and it started to load so I ejected it and tried the win7 disc and get same message back ???

why could that be ??

its original just opened it today for my new build, also tried the win7 32bit and that wont load either. I tried making an image of my win7 64bit and burning to a new dvd in case it was the media type, but that new image also fails to load

Are you sure you've chose the correct drive.

I made this mistake only last week. It shows boot devices as CD/DVD Drive so i chose that not realising it showed my CD drive as Asus and then a big long code....didn't pick up on that for about 40 minutes

I just disconnected the brand new sata drive and stuck in an old IDE drive that has been in the garage for years and it has started to load !! so I am in the middle of my new win7 install now
