Hi there, I am 5 lessons into my driving and I am really enjoying it and can't wait too pass :)
I have started saving for a car - and I have £1500 from my parents to use - the rest to come from me. I have quite a good job for a 17 year old still at school so I am sure I will have in the range of 2000 to 2500 (have over 500 ready to spend now - but building it up for starting running costs).
It would be great if you guys could chip in and give some advice on some first cars and expectant prices for a first time buyer.
Keep in mind i will have just passed my test when i'm driving this, and I ain't a speed freak :D

Thanks in advanced

Blair..

Lol yeh if only you could :P
Well I'm learning in a Mini Copper so erm, yeh that aint gonna be happening :D
I'd like something small, deffo a 3 door car.
My mum has a nice clio but she aint getting rid of for another 2 years when she gets my dad's car, and sharing isn't and option we both lead busy lives.

Thats looks quite good! :) thanks.
To be honest I'd really be happy with something that runs at this point, but i need it to last a good wee while until i get out of uni - so 4 years really :)

Hi there, remember mate, Insurance is a beggar for our age group, unless you can get a parent on your policy whos been driving for a while, it might reduce your options somewhat and depending on your locatoin, theres lots of things to consider... Myself personally, im a provisional driver whos had my licence for 9 months, and I drive with my dad in my Fiat Cinquecento, and apart from one gearbox problem, that doesnt surface that often, its a good steady car...

I will be going under my mum's name on the insurance - as a named driver - also my parents will pay this for me (they paid my sisters, they feel they ahve to even though i earn more than enough to pay it).
The Zetec would be great :)
Is it your mums car or yours? If its yours then im afraid you have to be the main driver!

Wouldn't bother having your mum as a main driver and you as a named driver. For one you lose out in the long run as you wont earn any NCB so in however many years when you get a bigger car and put yourself as the main driver you will be hit with no NCB despite having no claims in however many years of motoring. Also insurance companies aren't stupid, if you mum all of sudden now has a fiesta to insure in her name as well as her own car, but the fiesta has this newly passed driver on it too, they are gonna click on and charge higher. I've seen it done.
