Im coming up 17 in a few months and im starting to look for a first car. I was orignally going to go with a Honda Civic (old models) but looks like insurance is going to be to high..

Im looking for a 1.6 or 1.3-4 what you guys recommend?

Thanks ;)

I'm in the same boat too.
Civics are not out of the question, a 1.4 is insurable.

What budget you working with for the car, and what do you have for insurance.

You will really struggle to get a 1.6, I'd say 1.4 was the limit.

I guess so but id prefer a 1.6 :D

Budget is around 1500 for the car, insurance is more or less anything.

Go for a fiesta 1.25 to build up a years ncb then move on to something bigger. Yes its boring but its the sensible and logical thing to do.

My first car was a civic, no car atm but saving up to get another EG.

Get on the civic forums and clubs and try civicsportsclub, there's a guy on there that offers you his number, he works for Adrian flux and he gives mega discounts.

Don't be daft. There are plenty of bigger engined cars out there that can be insured for a reasonable price, a lot of people on here have had 1.8-2.0l Mondeos and insured them cheap.

It's all dependent on a number of things.

At your age it would be a lot more logical and the sensible thing to do to get a small engined car as no doubt you'll wanna be cruising with your mates and peer pressure results in accidents and/or speeding tickets which you dont want.

Atleast a slow car wont as easy to trash around :P

Well judging by the amount i paid on my Civic esi insurance, i'd say stick an lsi or dx as the premium really isn't worth it. ok, they're not quick but who cares as EG's are the best looking civics :D

I wouldnt like to think how slow a 1.4 is in a civic sized car. Personally I would look at 106 Quiksilvers.

Perfectly driveable, the civic isnt exactly large.

I used to have a 1.4 Xsara which is a larger car - wasnt fun or fast by any stretch of the imagination, but it coped absolutely fine.

Get a Saxo VTR if you can stomach the insurance. Some good FWD fun right there... got mine at 17 and still enjoy it at 19. :)
