First picture post with my 400D

Well I went for a walk earlier today with the dog and thought I'd take the camera along to see if I could photograph anything worth while and I found a few horses in a field just roaming around, they looked rather interested in what was around my neck I have to say.

So I snapped away at a few and these are the best of the bunch, all taken with the 18-55mm kit lens, C+C very welcome

The sharpness and colour in that first one is very very good.

The camera is excellent, it is such a massive step up even from my Canon S3 IS which was a little more than a point and shoot.

The lens you recommended also is just excellent, truely amazing quality and the macro is astounding, even though I did order the Super Macro II they sent me the 70-300mm APG DG Macro instead

Me too!

The older version of the lens (the Super II) is no longer available, so they probably had just not updated their website. Its all good.

Yeah as it was a fairly dull day I used the flash, had a positive effect I feel on all three of them with the first being my favourite.

Correctly used flash will give good sharp results on most lenses. The kit lens is okay but does require replacing if you wish to retain better contrast/colour and sharpness from out of cam to minimize post production and retain quality.
