First time using the "nifty fifty"

I've been neglecting mine badly of late. The 24-70 lives on my camera most of the time. Although the nifty is smaller and lighter it's bit of a mute point on a 1D size body!

Am very tempted to get one of these lenses for my trip to Warsaw at the end of the month - is it worth paying extra for the F1.4 USM or not given I've got a 500D to couple it with?

I really don't think it would be worth the extra expense. the 1.8 seems like a really awesome lens!

I'd pay extra for the Sigma 50mm f1.4, the results from that I really like. For now though I'm sticking with the 1.8, the bokeh sometimes isn't the prettiest and the AF is noisy (it will hunt a bit on the 500D in low light as well) but for the money it cannot be beaten. I loved mine on the 500D

I took a few shots using my 50mm when I first bought it and they came were amazing, if I may say so myself. Got a few printed and framed on my wall. A year on, and I have yet to recreate my beginner's "luck".
