Fix those tangled cables

On the subject, I bought myself a couple of contraptions from Ikea that you attach to the underside of your desk, and they are metal trays that can store cables/dongles and route them from plug to PC and monitor to PC etc. Very easy to use, were about £6 each too, my cables are now no longer all over the floor in a mess.

I keep meaning to pick some of those up, at the moment I keep a roll of cable twist (like you get for gardening, or the little bits of it for food bags etc) for tying cables back in an easy to undo manner, but it still leaves a nest of them on the floor.

ummmmmm. I didn't realise there was any other way can it could be done? (ok, you can do a circle as well )

I learnt this a few years back and never looked back :p

I'm almost mind blown that someone wouldn't know how to do this? It's like folding a piece of paper. You pick it up and wrap it - no drama.

I done that years ago. But the table I did it on, was like a kitchen style table, rather than a desk, so I just screwed the gutter to the back of the table using the proper brackets. Was pretty awesome as it can fit 4/6-way adaptors and wall warts in there no problem. Bonus points award also for meaning that stuff can be plugged in 'at desk height' rather than crawling under the table.

why would you bother wrapping/tying up a cable unless you had a OCD ?

Bird's nests are a pain whenever you need to unplug something or add new cables. If you ever need to rearrange your desk/room/setup for instance, you could spend ages untangling everything.

It also makes it much harder to clean underneath or behind your desk if you have so many cables laying around.

Long cables easily tangle and storing a lot of cables in one place will create a lovely bird's nest.

Having a shorter cable when using devices with my laptop is much more convenient for me, especially since desk/worktop space may be limited. Plus it means I don't pull out a mass of tangled cables from my bag when I get home

People also have pride in their home and would rather not have unsightly cables on show.

Take your pick! :)

I'm guessing this works best with thin cables?

I have some chunky mains cables, I'm not really sure if it will work with this, but it is a good idea anyway, I have a Riddick-oulous amount of cables.... :p

Same here, on my desk ive got mouse cables, speaker cables, camera docking station cables and usb phone cable all running amok, my desk looks like an explosion of black spaghetti.
