Hi

I was meant to be flying out to Thailand for a holiday later this month.

Today my boss asked me to fly out to South Africa from next week as they need some help on a project down there.

This now means I have to fly from Joburg to Bangkok.

Now, this would be OK as my company are covering the cost of altering my flight, but unfortunatley it appears to be impossible to by direct to Bangkok from Joburg, so instead I need to go via Singapore.

How do these changeovers work? Do you need to go out and check in again or what? How likey is it my bag will actually make it there as I presume I don't pick it up before taking my connecting flight?

Also does anyone know of an airline that flies direct from SA to Thailand?

Thanks

You should be through ticketed and , as long as your connection is not tight , there should be no problems with you bags

I need to know this, too.

I'm going to Hong Kong via Finland and I'm not sure exactly how connection flights work.

Would I need to pick up my bags in Finland and check-in again? Or do they get transferred automatically?

Bags are usually checked through to your final destination. The only exception to this I've had is flying to the USA with another internal flight. Where you collect your bag on initially landing, walk through customs and then drop it onto another conveyor for it to carry on its merry way.

they get transferred automatically

the only place I know of where this doesn't happen is when connecting from a International flight to a domestic in the US

Your bags should get transfered to your connecting plane for you like others have said. When i went to new york last month I checked my bags into teesside airport and next seen them in jfk, after a change of plane in amsterdam.

No, when you checkin in the UK you will be handed 2 boarding passes, one for UK-the hub.

and then from the hub - destination.

Bags will be checked in to your destination. You will pick them up at the destination.
