Where should Fox go?

I'd say Canada, if you plan to head west and see BC and the Rocky Mountains (Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, etc. which are all in Alberta).

If you'd just stay in the eastern part of Canada, I'd do the America trip instead.

Florida Keys are great, nice and relaxed, lots of wide open spaces and nice beaches to relax on.

It makes more sense as a place to end a holiday rather then begin it though. There's not an awful lot to do besides chill out, and you'll be wanting that haven driven/walked so much the rest of the time I'd have thought.

Wouldn't bother with the parks in Florida, but I'd love to go back to the Keys. I wouldn't bother with NYC again but I guess you have to go if you've never been. Apparently DC is a total dump as well.
Never been to Canada, and it sounds good but it's going to be an awful lot of driving I would have thought.
I voted Florida, just for the Keys, but thinking about it Canada has more to do.

Thats not an issue. In 2010 I did 2500 miles around California and in 2009 I did 5000 miles around Australia, lots of driving is something I enjoy :p Infact I'm concerned Florida might not have enough driving :D

If you haven't already seen NYC, it's a must. Good job it's on both itineraries!

I drove up to DC from Norfolk, VA last year. A day, two maximum, is all you need in DC. Once you've seen all the tourist attractions there's little else to do. It was a very interesting day and it was great to see all the monuments, the White House, the reflecting pool, big Abe and everything else you've probably seen on TV.

I went to Toronto in December 08. Brrr, -20 every day! Maybe it was a bad time to go to Toronto but it was dead. There was very little happening and apart from the CN tower, not a great deal to see. I quite liked the chilled alternative coffee drinking jazz scene and didn't do a whole lot else apart from drink and listen to music.

Niagra was an Americanised Blackpool. Hookers, casinos and lots of "24HR BAIL BONDS". The waterfall was cool but it got boring after 15 minutes :p There wasn't much to see on the drive from Toronto either.

Of your two options, I would personally do DC, NY and Toronto all in one go and I'd probably cut out the driving as well. There's nothing in between them to make a drive worthwhile. Compared to your recent trip to the west coast, I think you'll find it very underwhelming. Stick to the cities for something to do.

I'm assuming your other half has a big say in this and I don't expect this will sound too attractive but I'll throw it out there anyway. Have you thought of going across the southern states? From Florida, follow the Gulf coast right round to New Orleans. I did that (completely unplanned after getting stuck in an airport) and whilst there was nothing overwhelming to see along the way, the sheer "southerness" made it quite special. There's plenty of awesome beaches on the way if that sort of thing floats your boat. Your lady will probably love New Orleans too.

I'd love to do this but as you say, she also has a say in this and I'm not sure the Southern-ness would be enough for her, though I'd absolutely love it :)

Originally planned to do some sort of epic drive from say Miami to New York but the ridiculous one way hire fees have put paid to that.

i went to florida sept 2008. had a week in orlando, a week in miami. the weather was great (apart from the evening i landed, it was hammering down with rain, wipers couldn't clear the screen) there had been storms (though these are very regional) and the keys was actually closed off so i couldn't have gone anyway. it's easy to underestimate just how long the keys are to drive. i'd definitely go again and make sure i could get to the keys this time.
i've been to ny, city and upstate and wouldn't be in a great rush to go again though the drive you plan on doing to canada would be a great experience, just not as good as the keys imo. it was blazing hot in september in miami and the roads were great.
i also didn't get to go on one of those hoverboat things either which i wanted to do.

I've done both now.

I'd say Canada is more your thing.

Miami beach is all there is to miami. Go 1/2 a mile inland off the coast and its rough as hell. Lock your doors and don't leave the hire care unattended stuff.

Florida keys / everglades and the space station. is all anybody does in florida that isn't theme parks.

Go Canada.
