canada , not been to florida but i always get the feeling it will be full of brits and very touristy.

canada has loads to do we stayed at family over there so got a real feel of what the place is like. montreal is great , was'nt as keen on toronto but it was still good also old quebec and Niagara falls is fliping brilliant

I've been to both.

Florida sucks, I hated it. Its basically like being stuck in a massive theme park. there is nothing else of interest there. The most fun I had was driving one of those red neck fan boats in the swamp and driving the Cadillac hire care.

Canada however is awesome, I spent 3 weeks driving through Calgary, BC and Vancouver island then got a ferry into Seattle which was awesome too.

Lots of natural beauty, wild life, sports, awesomeness!

Ps oh yeah i saw a shuttle launch out of the side window of our plane, that was cool.

I'd do Florida but miss out Washington DC as it's boring, once you've seen the Whitehouse then you'll be stuck for anything interesting to do.

I'd not bother with Canada, I lived about half an hour from Niagara (on the Canadian side) apart from the waterfall the rest of Niagara is like a tacky seaside town, reminded me a bit of Southsea.

Toronto is ok, only spent a couple of weeks there and in Mississauga, there's nothing outstanding about it though, just another big city.

If I go to Florida I'll book another Mustang Convertible, if I do Canada I'll just get something generic from the 'Luxury' category.

Hi guys,

Some of you proved invaluable when I planned my California trip, so I thought I'd canvas for ideas for this years trip.

Shortlist is down to two trip ideas.

a) Miami, Florida Keys, then a flight to Washington DC, drive to NYC, fly home

b) Road trip from NYC to Canada via Niagra, Toronto, etc.

That is pretty much as far as I've got. I'm aware of the main cities I can visit but not really of what else is around in the areas I've chosen, what sort of scenery, that sort of thing. I have preconceptions of Florida being a bit...full of irritating English tourists. I have this idea it's like an American Benidorm. Maybe I should prove myself wrong?

So..

Which trip would you choose and why? Anything unmissable on either one? Not really bothered about theme parks.

Time of year is probably September. I'm aware that might be an interesting time to visit Florida... :D

Hmm Florida is a huge place.... depends when and where you go. Go to disney or i-drive and yes you'll get the dregs of society. (Think those that refuse to hire a car so they can have drink in disneyland) + 5 fat kids :D

Then you have Naples, the beaches the everglades and keys where you are less likely to meet people like that.

I voted for Canada trip only because it's what I want to do...
:D

Sadly the decision has been made - Florida, Washington DC and New York. Never mind, at least I get to hire another Mustang.

Thats if I can find flights in October which are not almost 500 quid, at that money for the East Coast I just get irritated that £200 more gets me back to Aus...

Eastern Canada licks balls!

Go west or go to the keys, oh you are, good choice! Visit the turtle hospital and camp out at least once. Watch a baseball game in Tampa and go to the everglades!

It depends which part of Miami you go to. Miami Beach is basically a tourist hotspot with hotels, beaches, etc. The other part - 'Miami' is very different - different culture, languages, landscape, everything. There is a big crime problem, and also traffic is a nightmare but as a tourist, they aren't usually a problem. You'll either love it or hate it IMO. The club scene is overrated and pretty much based on prestige, there are some great restaurants as you would expect, and also some decent shopping areas.
