Flu, how many of you have actually had it?

Just had my second cold in 2 months. Not as bad this time, just a blocked nose and sore throat. Getting over it though.

Yup. The thermometer read in Fahrenheit (110f) in case my conversion was wrong.

I'd suspect a faulty reading. If you had a temp of 110f, the chances are you'd be so delusional that you'd not remember what the actual reading was :p

The highest ever recorded temperature for a human is about 115f and anything over 104f usually requires urgent medical treatment to bring it under control.

If you didn't take anything stronger than paracetamol to treat it, I'd be surprised if you were more than 2 degrees C over normal body temp.

My gf was rushed to hospital with a temp just over 39C (103f) and was in hospital for 24hrs before they'd let her out.

I've had the flu twice, once when I was very young (so I can only vaguely remember) and once last year.

Last year was awful, but I was not completely immobilised. Me and my friend both went to a concert which is the perfect damp environment for flu transmission. One day after the gig we were practically bed ridden for a week. Constantly feeling like vommiting, freezing cold yet boiling hot and hallucinating every so often, particuarly after sleeping. However, as I was able to muster the strength to walk to the shops on once or twice, I imagine it was a mild flu and probably swine flu.

Took me 3 weeks to thoroughly recover.

its a total myth that ''if you had flu you wouldnt be able to do *********''

people have even been known to get the virus and not even realise it.

As pointed out, of course they have.

However, if you're displaying symptoms your body is fighting the virus, and therefore you expect that you will feel like ****.

I've only had it once, when I was 15 over Christmas.
Had the usual symptoms. Was bedridden for 3 days, hallucinating/delirious, couldn't eat and lost a load of weight.
It was a week before I was back to my normal self. It changed my appetite though, and I didn't eat properly for a while after that.

The flu is ******* nasty. A lot of people think it's just a bad cold, but it messes you up a lot more than that. If you've got it then you'll know about it.

I started up with Swine Flu on the day I went to work as a steward at sonisphere.

350 Miles away from home, shivvering in a tent, delerious from fever, having to get up every few hours day & night with horrible stomach cramps to use a nasty portaloo.

4 days into the ordeal I managed to pack up all my **** except the tent, travel back home on a coach, was holed up for another 2 weeks at home with gastroenteritis - was my birthday too - thought i was going to die (there was a lot of blood).

Im 99% better now - HOWEVER: I will never again mistake a cold for real "flu", it can kill thats for sure, and swine flu, killed perfectly healthy young adults at the height of the pandemic.

I've had flu probably half a dozen times over the years, and yea it's absolutely evil.

Last year though I had what I was told afterwards a "mild" attack of the swine flu going around....omg.....it only lasted about 24-36hours (shorter than any other flu I have ever had) but jeez....I thought I was going to die - and at times wished i would :p

The combination of a freezing cold core making my teeth chatter with my skin burning up with fever so much i was in pools of sweats - with every joint aching like mad - and no drugs to help at all - not even a paracetamol :(

If that was just a mild attack....i feel sorry for people who have had the full on swine flu

I had it once when I was quite young, I guess around age 7 or so. My Mum had to go to the supermarket urgently and as I was so young with the flu she didn't want to leave me on my own.

I remember trying to sleep on a shelf behind the loo roll :p

I have had it just the once...didnt get out of bed for 5 days, oh and it was christmas day 2 years ago when it really kicked in!

The upshot of it was that it prompted me to stop smoking, i didnt get out of bed for 5 days to smoke so i thought why not just give in.

once, christmas 2000, just in time for the holidays. 12 days off work & all of them spent on the sofa cos i couldn't drag my arse back off to bed. only managed to eat a couple of bowls of cornflakes over the entire holiday, had wild dreams. twas one hell of a crap crimbo.

Once and it was ******* horrible.

Temp over 40 and couldn't do anything other than lay in bed shaking and sweating.

I have had it once, I felt as if I had been kicked all over by a horse, also had a thumping headache and high temp, was in bed for 8 days, hope I never have it again in my lifetime...

A good indicator if what you have is "real" flu or just a bad cold is this:

If you had a very bad cold and if you were sitting in your living room and saw a £50 on the footpath, you would go out and get it, but if you had "real" flu you wouldn't bother about it...

just had a fever friday, worst ever feeling, my head felt like it was gonna explode, wierdest dreams ever.

One minute i was too hot, next i was shivering, i was in bed by 5.30pm ("yes i was a man and went to work") slept for 12 hrs straight.

now im left with a chesty cough and a blocked nose.

had it twice. The first time i was in bed for 11 days, couldnt eat or drink and ended up on a drip to hydrate. The roof of my mouth bled a lot too (dry?). Had a nurse / doctor come and check on my 3 times a day. I lost over a stone (some of which was probably fluid loss)

2 time was pig flu, not as bad as above but not nice either.

Never have had flu, I heard ppl say they have had flu and got over it in a few days but thats rubbish. From what I have heard flu is dreadfull you ache your in pain you have no energy and it takes 1 week or more to clear it and even then you feel drained.
