flying into the US, then flying to another country

I have been umming and arring over travelling for 6-8 weeks early next year for a while now. my main aim is i want to see the great barrier reef. at approaching 33, i am nearing the window closing on this (realistically).

my plan being to fly to california, have 7 days there, then fly to queensland, have 4 weeks (maybe more) there, then get a flight back to the UK via bali for a week.

i was not sure about whether i could afford the money to travel and have 2 months worth of mortgage and bills go out, with no income coming in.

however, i have found out today i have been awarded a contract from 29.10 until christmas eve that would allow me to comfortably afford this and the timing is spot on as i wanted to do the trip in january when australia is getting (i hope) some attractive weather. there is the possibility this contract will be extended until may but that's another isssue.

is flying into the US and then onto another country a simple thing or can i expect a customs interview? i wouldn't really want anymore than 7 days in california. plan being land at LAX, drive to san francisco then return back to LA taking in some national parks on the return. fly to queensland from LAX.

i was thinking trailfinders may be a good place to enquire but would like to know if anyone here has done similar?

i mean on the whole travelling thing, not specifically seeing the great barrier reef. though i realise 33 isn't exactly over the hill, my priorities and finances are laying elsewhere year on year.

I'm not an expert but looking at it logically, I don't see why they would have any problems. You have proof of onward plans, and will have the money avaliable to fund your trip so you're not likely to outstay your visa, nor are you likely to need to work illegally to support yourself. Finally all of your destinations are in keeping with a traveller.

33 is getting too old for travelling??????

Ranulph Fiennes obviously just looks older than his years I suppose..;)

As for travelling from one country to another, it isn't a problem given the countries you have mentioned. Just get your visas sorted out.

that's what i'm hoping. i just wondered whether it was not really a done thing? and was expecting a customs interigation but when one looks at it logically, i see no reason why they'd have a problem with it as it'd be quite obvious what i was doing.

If your passport is full of stamps from the middle east and the question – Are you a Nazi you tick YES, then you stand more chance of being interrogated. lol

Otherwise I don't see why you would, there must be plenty of people don't directly return to where they came from every single day.

the window closing at 33 is a personal thing. not how i feel about travelling as a whole. people should travel at whatever age they wish, however, for me, this is something i need to do about now.

no problem as long as you don't mind being groped by a fat US customs officer or it'll cost you $10k

Don't touch my junk!!

am sure Jimmy Saville would have loved being a TSA officer in an other life

my advice: eat tons of beans, eggs etc.. and when you get to pat down, lay a huge smelly fart to make it as uncomfortable for them as they do to you. hopefully you won't be thown in Guantanmo for a gas attack
