A mate has a 55 plate focus LX with standard ford CD headunit. Is there anyway he can add aux in to this particular unit or even does it have it round the back?

What head unit does he have? If it is the 6000CD with an AUX button then he should be good to go. If it is the 6000 with the CDDJ button (for CD changer) then things are a little trickier.
The factory-fit AUX input is located in the glovebox (annoyingly). If there isn't one (like mine) then it is possible to retro-fit it. You'll need a hole-saw of the right size (I seem to remember it being approx 10-11mm), Torx-Security screwdriver bits (the ones with the hole in the middle) and the removal tools for the Headunit.
Also, you'll need the AUX input socket kit (socket and cable). The kit has the FINIS CODE 1426121, the PART NO AM6S6J 19C150 AA. It is available from the parts department of most Ford Dealers.
It takes a bit of work - basically you have to take out the glovebox liner (using the Torx-Security bits), cut the hole for the AUX socket using the hole saw, install the socket, remove the head unit, install the cable between the two and refit both.
There are a few guides out there on the internet, including a few even more DIY-based, but I can testify that the above approach works
