Hello all.

I've a few questions regarding my 56 plate Focus.

1. I've recently removed the radio scratching the fascia in the process, I'd like to get a new fascia but I cannot find a decent part number. My local Ford dealer tried helping but the numbers don't match up (their catalogue > my fascia). Is anyone likely to know the part number off hand?

2. Is this fascia asphault grey or antares silver?

3. I've been led to believe that my 6006 CD player may have a 3.5mm audio jack retrofitted with a certain cable, is it a straight forward process?

4. Is £300 reasonable for a first MOT and big service?

5. Is it possible to programme keys myself or would a Ford dealer need to?

Any help is appreciated, thanks x

I think only Ford can deal with the key programming, and £300 doesn't sound too bad but I recon you could knock £100-£150 off that by searching round and playing dealers off each other. MOT is about £50 but could be done for about £30 with vouchers and a non major service should be about £100~.

Independent companies (and some chains) will routinely do MOTs for as low as £25 - mileage varies but there are people who report that the MOT is honest (pass with nothing but advisories).

You should get a clarification of what they are going to do on the service - the major service in the book is not necessarily the same as the major service offered by the dealer. You could be looking at: brake fluid, fuel filter, spark plugs (3rd year service stuff) on top of the standard air filter, oil filter, oil change. You should get a final clarification (in your head) of whether you trust the dealer to actually do what they say will, as apparently some don't

On the Mondeo if you have 2 keys you can program a third - I don't know how the Focus works though.

You can program another key with just one key. Some bloke in a van did it for me cheaper than the Ford dealer would!

Depends on the car and the key. As osc89er said, you can reprogram a new key on a Mondeo if you already have 2. Some keys can be copied cheaply (although you wont be able to use it to program more as the car sees it as the same key) but some cant be copied at all (Mine :() because they're "encrypted"

Funnily enough, manufacturers dont create a bespoke security system for each model they create - would be a bit expensive ;)
I don't know what bespoke means, but I just assumed since the key for my Ford Focus (with immobiliser but no alarm) was made with just one other key, then it would be the same for another Ford Focus. I didn't know that the keys weren't all created equal! :)
