Since writing off my ST24 and being paid out i have been looking at cars for the past 2-3 weeks. I originally had my heart set on a turbo but after losing my NCB I just dont see the point in paying stupid insurance as i will only be keeping the car for a year at the most untill I can afford something better.
I have spoke to a dealer today and im going to see a citroen xsara 1.8 vtr (x reg, black, 52k) on sunday - the price is 1850. My uncle was round my house tonight and he has got a new job where he will be getting a company car so he will be selling his focus 1.6 zetec (w reg, FSH, silver, 3 door, 54k) and I should be able to get it for 2k.
Which will be worth more after a year? (im guessing the focus) *I think the bookprice is about 2.5k atm*
Which is the better car?
Im tempted to go for the xsara because its faster ( stupid reason I know, but after goin from a 170+ bhp car to a measly 70 bhp escort the more horses the better)
Im am in 2 minds but need 2 make a decision A.S.A.P as the Xsara im looking at on sunday is 70 miles away whereas the Focus is on my doorstep, plus the
escort im driving about in now has just about worn me down ( sluggish as hell, no PAS, knackered heaters and shocking MPG!) (( At a push I could get 50 miles from a 10ers fuel in the ST, whereas my escort 1.6 8v struggles to get 55 miles from a 10er aswell as fuel being nearly 5p cheaper than when I had the ST)

What should I buy and why?

The Focus is the better car but the Xsara has better performance and specification.

Difficult decision here - if it was 2.0 Focus the decision would be easy but I think given the choice between these two specific cars, I would take the Xsara.

Who cares about residuals, these are cheap throwaway cars.

I think of the focus was a 1.8 then i would take it every day of the week.

How much money would be needed to get the focuse to say 120- 130 bhp? 500 quid?

Gotta make a decision by noon 2moz so time aint really on my side

wouldn't touch a Citroen as a free gift, made that mistake once, never again

yeah ive heard the bad rep but surely a 6 year old car with 50k odd miles cant be that bad?

looks like ill have to decide whlst working in the morning,

/(flicks a coin) Heads the focus, tails the xsarsa

mine was a brand new car , over £10k of warranty work in first 18 months , over 100 days off the road and around 10 breakdowns, car then taken back by dealer

surely after the insurance add on for the mods, it would be cheaper (and better) to just get a better engine from the start?
