Well I'm extremely annoyed to put it lightly (and without the use of any swearies). I decided it would be a good idea to swap the thermal paste on my i7 as I had to shut down the system to swap out a GTX260 for a GTX460. I found this IC24 stuff hard to get out of the tube, managed to get some on the caps near the CPU socket after it wouldn't stop coming out.
Had to remove the CPU to clean it and the socket, once done I noticed that two of the CPU socket pins were bent. I have no idea how it happened as I'm extremely careful but it has and as you can imagine I wasn't best pleased. I even had the socket protector on for most of the time, so it either happened when the CPU was removed or when the protector went on. Thankfully I had another UD5 spare from when I thought my UD3R was faulty. So what started out as a 10 minute job took nearly an hour to remove the motherboard, swap everything over and get the system running again. Still got to re-do the overclock but at least that it one minor victory.
I've not tested the motherboard yet but knowing my luck it is toast. So I've effectively thrown £90 down the drain!
Off to watch some Criminal Minds to err help calm me down! Not the end of the world I know but something of my own making and something I could have easily done without.
