Grabbing a PS3 in a week or so and I'm stocking up on a few games in advance, is Folklore worth a purchase, I'm after a game with a decent storyline to lose a few hours here and there.
It looks unusual and quite interesting, what are your views?

Cheers :)

-edit- I see it got 9/10 on IGN but this seems a little like new console limited releases syndrome (ie add a score of 2 points to all games)

I enjoyed folklore its quite a quirky game, not quite an action game not quite an rpg, it also has the best use of the Sixiaxis/DS3 in any PS3 game IMO. There is a Demo on PSN if you like to try before you buy though. Unless you have already got it/played it the Oblivion GOTY edition is in stores for a bout 30-40 and also fits your criteria.

I don't really like Edge reviews tbh although they like to claim that they are unbiased and out on a limb they always come across as elitist and boring, just my opinion obviously.

Games I used to trust but I feel that they are recently a little more flaky.

I may wait until it's a £17.99 jobby :)..unless others come on here and rave about it.

Well it sounds like you've already made your mind up and just want people to come on a justify your decision.

So, my 2c just get it; we've all liked games that haven't scored perfect. Hell, I really enjoyed Two Worlds and Chromehounds.

Out of interest what are the other games you've already bought? Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted? They all scored as well as Folklore in Play Magazine (Lair also got 90%).

Nope, Ridge Racer, Motorstorm, Sega Rally wasn't sure which to go for so I got all 3 dirt cheap. I'm looking at Drake's, Virtua Fighter Everybody's Golf and Lair as well.

I just want a fair few games to try on a new machine but won't pay £40 for the pleasure:)

Not made my mind up about Folklore at all, I value real opinions on these boards more than any magazine......usually:)

I've not got a PS3 yet but Uncharted and R&C are the ones (exclusives) that I'd pick my system up with. If this helps :)

Yea id listen to people who have actually played the game and avoid people who are recommending Lair. ;)

Ive played through a fair bit of Folklore and I would recommend it! Its quite a far-fetched fantasy game with some cool visuals and the use of sixaxis is the best ive seen in any game! Just depends if youre into those fantasy adventure/rpg type games.

Oh and Drakes is a must have!

Its quite a cool game. i got sidetracked with something else so have never completed it. There are a fair few add ons on psn also.

Compared to what i usually play it was a breath of fresh air but i just couldn't get into it... i wanted too but the story just felt a bit 'twin peaks travels to ireland and drowns in a keg of guiness'

7/10 from me

+the folk upgrade system is hell of a lot of fun and the character design is superb

-story pace too slow and disjointed and for a story driven game thats a fair old -.

I've never played Folklore but I waiting for it to hit budget price and then I'll snap it up as I enjoyed the demo. What advice I can give you tho is avoid Lair even if it can be brought for 50p, it's truly awfull...

i didnt like it too much the story for me became a drag and found myself skipping through it as fast as possable :(
