This is a follow on from the follow thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18210929
After getting sky to re sync my line, initially my router was syncing at 13Mb... this didn't last long, all of 5 minutes in fact. I was actually getting 0.5Mb.
To cut a long story short, for some strange reason one of the sky boxes phone extension was causing a major problem. I have been plugging my router directly into the master socket for all of these tests.
My master socket in the house is ancient, 20+ years. It isn't the new NTe5 style with the removeable faceplate. After removing all the extensions etc. With the router plugged directly into the master socket I was syncing at 11.5.
I still wasn't quite happy as I was supposed to be getting around 18Mb. I then went out to BnQ and bought a new master socket. I fitted that following the old wiring as a guideline. This gave me a speed increase of around 2Mb which was great.
I just felt however the sky router was holding me back, so I went on a venture of google to discover how to extract the username and password from the brand new highly encrypted D-Link routers sky are now using. I was lucky enough to work this out and managed to retrieve my username and password, which I entered into my Netgear DG834N. This however did not increase my speed but it did allow me to use proper encryption and customise a few other things the sky router wouldn't allow. Plus I paid over £100 for it and didn't want it going to waste.
I then read a little more up on the matter and found out removing idc terminals 3 and 4, just leaving 2 and 5... would help cut out interference.
I did this, then rebooted the router and all of a sudden notice a massive increase to 15.5Mb sync.
So after many failed attempts calling skys customer service, two trips to BnQ and around 10 hours of Googling. I finally managed to improve my speeds from 8Mb to Nearly double that.
I am however not one for settling... I was told by a few people that my line attenuation etc would allow for an 18Mbit sync. The question is, What next?
I was thinking of totally replacing my master socket with one of those new NtE5 with built in adsl filters.
If anyone has any tips for me I'd greatly appreciate it.
Also a tip for anyone who has old phone wiring, remove idc connectors 3+4 (only 3 on newer wiring) It made a huge difference for me.
Here is my up to date line stats
