I've just started a new job and for the first time I work a normal shift (8:30-5:00). I've only ever worked afternoon/evening shifts and I could come home on breaks so I could cook some proper food.

However, now I can't as I work away from home and there is no cooking facilities at work (apart from a microwave and a fridge).

Therefore I need to take something with me to work that I can have at lunch. It needs to be high in protein, healthy, cheap and not taste rough!! Also, it would be ideal if I cold just cook up a big batch of it at the weekend and just split it up into 5 meals.

I've tried chicken based salads before but they're always fairly tasteless, and salads dont really have much in the way of calories (I'm trying to add lean mass btw). I've also tried rice and chicken based dishes but I can't afford much chicken so it just ends up being a pot full of carbs!

I also take a shake with whey, oats and milk but I want some more natural foods.

Anyone got any suggestions?
Cheers.

Some sort of mince/pasta that you can heat up in the microwave? Frozen mince is quite cheap. And to be honest, so is frozen chicken pieces. :)

Mince has got a ton of fat in it though. I already get the frozen chicken from tescos, and stock up like a mad man if there's an offer on.

Need something to do with it really, instead of salad. Most things I would have with it are packed full of carbs, rice, pasta, bread etc. Even the 'brown' or wholemeal varieties still have a bit in.

Lean mince would be fine. I have a container of rice and tuna mayo, tastes great and fills me up. You could also try taking a few eggs into work with some rice and doing scrambled egg and rice/ scrambled egg on toast (if they have a toaster). Whats wrong with carbs? Are you prone to gaining fat?

Nutritional bars can help, or a shake. Contains a blend of complex carbs (starch) and fibre to keep you going until your next meal.

Two tins of Tesco tuna will cost you a quid, mix with wholemeal pasta, bit of light mayo and some sweetcorn, maybe some chilli flakes too and you're sorted.

I have this for lunch most days and as long as you take some chewing gum to combat the fish breath, it's all good.
