Former England captain Steven Gerrard says he sometimes "hated" being on international duty and blames a lack of success with the Three Lions on key players being "egotistical losers".

These players who couldn't put their club rivalry to one side never deserved the support they got. They were never going to win anything, were never a team. I remember fans were suspicious at the time as well, but it was denied.
It's pathetic, toxic and shows the mentality of some of these players - specifically looking at you Carragher and you Gary Neville, and more than a few others as well.

This is why I don't buy into all the Southgate BS. Players haven't had proper rivalries like those days for a while now and its shown in the national team. Back then, the domestic rivalries were fierce. The players weren't mates. Now they are all friends, they have millions of activities to keep them occupied on international duty and its a completely different scenario. Southgate just came in at the right time to get all the praise.
Funny you say that, I was watching an interview with the Ex united and England Physio and he said the same. That is changed actually with Rooney not Southgate because Rooney would just not care about those Liverpool/Chelsea/United divisions and just banter with them all.

Report in The Athletic over the weekend re independent stats they had on 'long balls' Utd had 91 Long balls to Liverpool's 85.
Also why was Slot moaning about low block and long balls, surely that would mean Brentford would play..............................low block.......................long ball.
