Football Banter Thread

Fees going to non-existent agents as well.

Tan tells Mackay that there are no more transfer funds and three days later he is told to resign be sacked. It sounds like Tan was getting pilloried for nothing. If anything he could have been Mackay a favour by keeping quiet and giving him the choice.

According to Cardiff, it wasn't banter after all

Wasn't quite sure where to put these...

EDIT:- forgot to say, this is football 365's mediawatch thing, part of it, random stupid defences of Mackay by a bunch of idiots.

http://www.football365.com/mediawatch/9434304/Mediawatch

'The LMA does not condone in any way any potential breach of equal opportunities laws but would also point out that out of over 10,000 text messages and 70,000 documents produced over a long period of time it may not be a complete surprise that some inappropriate comments can sometimes be made by employees, like Malky.'

Mediawatch is reminded of Will Ferrell's character Cam Brady in the film The Campaign saying: "In my lifetime, I have made over 100,000 phone calls and maybe 1,000 of them were obscene. That's a very small percentage."

Not Condoning It, But
Said Harry Redknapp: "What I would say is that Malky Mackay has made a big mistake.

"Malky is a great lad, a family man and a real football man, he has made mistakes and people make mistakes in life.

"Suddenly everyone is an angel, he made a big mistake the lad but it shouldn't finish his life. He is a good manager and I feel bad for what he has done but I bet no one is feeling as bad as him or his family today.

"I'm not condoning what he has done but show me someone who has ever made a mistake and I will show you a liar. He hasn't murdered anyone, he hasn't raped anyone and he is not a paedophile."

Two things, Harry:

1) Being racist is not a 'mistake'.

2) Not being a murderer, rapist or paedophile is not an excuse.

Anyway, we didn't know Mackay was 'racist' five minutes ago.

Not Condoning It, But, Part II
"I am not just saying this but he is one of the most genuine, honest people I have ever come across," said Mackay's former Norwich teammate Iwan Roberts.

"Yes, he has made a bad judgement in error and will be the first to admit that. He has a son, young daughter, lovely wife."

Newsflash: Family men cannot possibly be racist.

This is the best excuse since the father of UKIP election candidate James Elgar denied his son was racist because: "Last night he came home at 10.30pm with a curry."

Not Condoning It, But, Part III
After former Cardiff youngster Ibrahim Farah accused Mackay of making racist remarks during his time at the club, Mackay's ex-assistant David Kerslake said: "He was a young player and we just didn't think he was good enough. Because he was released, he's maybe trying to take advantage of the situation."

That's it, take the side of the man who's admitted sending racist texts. 'No comment' would probably have sufficed.

Not Condoning It, But, Part IV
Said Mackay's former coach at Cardiff, Joe McBride: "The texts are not Malky Mackay."

This is the best one yet. It wasn't Malky Mackay sending those texts, it was his alter ego 'Racist Malky'.

The LMA's statement was horrendously stupid, and again the LMA and almost all the articles on say football 365 and elsewhere seem to completely ignore the financial/dodgy transfers part of the Daily Mail article. Ultimately the texts/emails were recovered looking for evidence of the transfer dealings, not looking for(afaik) generally nasty texts/e-mails.

So the LMA was not only passing off racist/sexist/homophobic texts as banter... while also laughably saying they were done while under extreme pressure. I can understand but not condone someone screaming something nasty in the heat of the moment, regardless of what the PC brigade say you can do things out of character in the heat of the moment, you can lose control, you can say completely stupid things. But heat of the moment and writing out an e-mail are different things in general. Anything that takes more than a few seconds gives your brain a chance to overcome impulse, impulses are just that, we all have impulses, we think odd things, who we are is how we chose to deal with thoughts, act on them or tell ourselves that thought is stupid for instance. So heat of the moment/stress/frustration doesn't cut it, but when you try to go from anger/frustration to... banter? You're talking about completely different things, you joke with a mate when you're feeling relaxed and in a good mood.

Either way, the LMA are glossing over the texts while entirely ignoring that he could be participating in fraudulent activity. It's possible that if they were basically embezzling money from the club, making up extra fee's, sending them to uninvolved parties... the assumption would be you do this and get a cut. This is illegal, they just pass over it like it doesn't matter, the accusation isn't even mentioned which I find even more odd. LMA defending not only a person who has admitted making these texts, but someone who may end up in jail for fraud/similar.

Cardiff are right to be peeved off by the LMA's reaction, so do frankly many other people.

Harry Redknapp with his "he's not a murderer, rapist or peadophile".... so it's okay rant.

He's a family man and a football man... therefore we should forgive him because no one with kids or a wife has ever done anything bad... it's a fact. If you have a family or you were ever involved in football you must be a great person????

Redknapp really is a ******* idiot. I just also find it funny that he came out to defend him when Redknapp constantly does seemingly dodgy deals himself.

Take it king of the 'old boys club' Arry has been having mobile lessons because today he said:

“Lots of people do that silly tweeting. I’m lucky, I don’t send text messages too often. I do get text messages from people with sick jokes on when something terrible has happened. I don’t read them, they make me ill. But it does happen and I’m sure I’m not the only person who gets them. He’s a good person beneath all that and I hope he comes back. I can’t imagine how he must be suffering for the big mistake he’s made.
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/22/harry-redknapp-malky-mackay

But I'm sure during his tax evasion trial he said he was basically computer illiterate and had never sent a text and it was all the dogs doing?? ;)

ignore the coarse language (text not vid) but this united fans had enough

You know there's swearing and yet you've posted it anyway. Not a good idea.

Just watching Vampire Weekend play Walcott at Reading. Amusingly, it's ridiculously fast and doesn't really end up anywhere..wonder if it was named after Theo.

After his apology earlier too... :p

I bet Tan has got a load of stuff to use against him, and will end up crushing him with it all.

Still, it was just banter...

I actually thought this yesterday when I read something in one of these articles that Tan had only sent the FA a small hand full of texts. My thinking was, they'll send them 5 texts, let themselves hang themselves in a noose because they will come out and say "but it's only 2 texts, it's not a pattern, that isn't me, I apologise profusely"... then go... errm, what about these other 10. We'll get a "oh, yeah I forgot about those 10 and how bad they were but, you know, same excuse guys, it's limited and not really me", then hit them again.

I'm starting to love Tan :p

Moody is said to have replied: “He told me he had an offer to go there but will never accept because the manager is a racist. Thankfully he hasn’t met you.

This from The Telegraph seems particularly telling. Moody joking that a player didn't want to join another club because the manager was racist.... then joking about Mackay's racism..... It really screams that both Moody and Mackay know they are racists and joke about it, absolutely comfortable talking like that to each other.

The apologists I posted above, people they've worked with in the past, they are the same idiots. Trying to defend them but they are defending the indefensible.

I still find it amazing that all this stuff was found while the two guys are being investigated for what is fraud, something they could in theory end up in jail for and seemingly no one at all is covering that side of the story at all.

Okay Moody/Mackay might be racists, but effectively stealing or embezzling money is a much more serious and direct crime.

EDIT:- Forgot to say/ask, who is the rival manager who the player says is a racist?

Wow, I think those players who basically refused to go back there after the summer were.... well, completely right. They may have signed contracts but I don't think anyone should be forced into a freaking war zone for their job if they have a choice.
