Football Manager Vs Championship Manager

Is there any need to get fm 2011 if I have fm 2010? Other than updated stats ofc?

Yes!!!!

Every year it gets so much better, and every year I am surprised :)

Loving the new negotiations with the agents, press conferences are so much better, scouting seems better plus numerous other things like assistant recommendations being auto put it in regards to opposition player etc.
Board interactions are 1000x better too!

Only thing I can really fault is the lack of interest in my players, you very rarely get bids made to you and it can be hard to get rid of dead wood.

The last CM was pretty good, its certainly easier to get into and more 'fun' than FM of recent years, it harks back to CM2 up to CM3 where i felt things got a bit stale and over complicated.
fifa manager ????

totly spot on!

Well Im getting mixed messages here it seems! Although it does look like around 2/3rds are in the FM camp and 1/3rd in the CM camp.

If you waited long enough you'd likely find it was more like 90% for Footmall Manager, and 10% for Championship Manager, and for good reason. FM is simply the best football managerial sim you can get, hands down, without question. I do have to wonder about the sanity of those who suggest otherwise ;)

There is no question that Football Manager is the king of this genre. However it is perhaps getting to the stage where its too in depth for some people. Those who just want a quick more arcade style game will gravitate towards other games so really it depends on which type of football sim you want.

I gotta admit as a longtime player of the series (since CM'93) that in recent times I too have got a bit overwhelmed by all the detail and micromanagement in FM. The last time I tried it I remember starting up a new season, spent a few hours in preseason putting in bids, picking formation etc.... and then I just gave up before even playing a game!

Not saying that the level of detail is a bad thing, I can see why people would like it, but maybe an 'arcade mode' or similar would be good which has a heavier focus on matchdays or something.

that's EXACTLY what happened to me :(

didn't play a game yet put in 3 hours tweaking/selling/buying etc

For those that don't know - a short history lol.

Championship Manager was THE football manager game for many a year. The developers fell out, and the CM design team moved to SI Games - Football manager was born.

Since then, there has only been one game and that is FM.

The thing is though I won't actually do that - for me it'll be FM or nothing (unless it's something a bit off the wall where you are both playing and managing or something), Having played a range of football management games, literally from the original "Football Manager" that was written in BASIC, through FM2, Super League, Football Director, USM, Premier Manager etc, I know that FM won't be bettered, I'll just get annoyed playing other games.

You don't have to get fully involved in FM - if you want a more arcade styled sim, just set the options so that your assistant manager does most of the day to day running. Simple as that.

SI Games have always made CM (now FM). Eidos owned the rights to the CM name, the team made the new CM game under Sega and had to choose a different name.

I know.

The Footy Manager team are now called SI Games - they formerly worked for Eidos and made the Championship Manager series.

When they split SI Games kept the game coding, and Eidos kept the Championship Manager 'name'.

Wasn't the last CM released for free or something silly like £1? (Which still made it a complete rip-off in all honesty.)

A dreadful game.

FM is in a league of it's own for me.

I think you paid what you wanted to for one of the versions lol.
