For people that surf the net in the dark (eye strain)

I seriously recommend a programme called f.lux, http://www.stereopsis.com/flux/

I can't express how effective this little app is, I presume many on here like me surf the net in quite a low lit room, sometimes for hours at a time, I'm someone that gets headaches quite a lot, usually due to eye strain/tension, I've been testing this programme on and of now for a good couple of years and using this app cuts down my headaches by at least 80%.

Basically it changes the colour temperature of your screen/s to a warm hue that is a lot easier on the eyes, now many people may think that they don't require an app like this as they personally don't feel as if their eyes are being strained, but as an experiment if your in a low lit room and you've been surfing the net for a while try loading up the app and stare at the screen while it slowly changes the temperature, you really feel your eyes relaxing, really feels good, it's like when you don't realise your shoulders are tense until think about them.

You can set the warmth of the display, your location for enabling it to activate automatically at sundown, or you can have it on at all times if you desire, and for those that require a correct colour profile for photo-editing etc there is an easy to access 'disable for an hour' option available by right clicking the task bar icon.

good find thanks!

What do you suggest doing because I get this as well?

I've found doing anything other than sitting at the computer for 15 to 30 minutes before going to bed helps. Mostly I take the dog for a short dander last thing at night. Or it could be washing up the dishes and "prepping" the kitchen for morning. Sorting washing. Ironing. It's mind numbing work. You can let your mind drift as you work instead of being bombarded with information and light and noise as you would be sat at your computer or in front of the TV.

Wow I like this a lot, good find! I've just installed it myself and the initial colour change shocked me but it did make my eyes feel more relaxed if that makes any sense?

Am installing.

How does it affect gaming, out of interest?

Most people seem to say it's fine but I've had mixed results so I normally disable it for gaming, 99% of the games that I tried will also have their temperature profile adjusted while running the app, but the problem I found was it would introduce a very slight micro stutter about every second while gaming, although that being said other people have said that they don't experience that problem so I guess it depends on your setup/drivers etc.

I use a mac, so it automatically darkens/lightens for me depending on how bright the room is

I'm not sure how the mac does it but it is usually better that the 'temperature' is changed rather than the brightness lowered as that way you can still easily see everything, changing the temperature isn't the same as lowering your brightness.

I found white browser space was making my eyes strain, but didn't want to have to turn my screen brightness up and down between watching movies. I'm in a fully lit room too. This has helped, thanks :)

Hmm, can't say I like it. If anything my eyes are straining more especially on text. Stuff doesn't jump out at me any more which means my eyes have to search harder if you know what I mean.

Going to give this a try as I too sit in the dark in front of a monitor. If it really does help me to sleep better after coming off the pc then that would be great.
