All over.
Hey, I'm gonna be upgrading in the next couple of weeks. I have a budget of £500. I need a processor, motherboard, memory and PSU. Will be used for gaming mainly. Probably will be overclocking.

I've had a look at the Gigabyte DS3 for a mobo. Although, in the mobo section of this forum looks like it has lots of problems :( I think I want a Conroe. Not sure which one. I think 2GB DDR2 RAM would be good, not sure which brand. G.Skill perhaps? I'm liking the look of the Sparkle 500W Bluestorm, out of stock though :(. Or Enermax 500W Liberty. Thing is I got a lot of things that need connecting to the PSU (7 fans :), 3 HDD, Floppy, DVD-RW, GFx, LCD panel, Case LEDs )

I already have X1800XT, three Hard disks, a Gigabyte G-Power Pro and the rest.

Cheers

Delivery is about a tenner so that leaves you with around £100 for the motherboard. I know squat about motherboards, especially core 2 duo ones so I can't really advise, hopefully a budget of around £100 is enough for it.

You could go for the OEM E6400 and buy an aftermarket cooler instead if you fancy o/c'ing, but again I can't really recommend a cooler. If you get a fairly cheap motherboard and either stretch the budget a little or drop the RAM for the cheaper g-skill DDR2, you could go for an E6600 perhaps.

I'm pretty sure the 6600 would be worth the stretch due to the step to 4mb cache if you can manage it. More Conroe mobo choice expected this month also I believe.

Does this look OK? Is everything compatible? RAM is Value, would I be better off going for, say, Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 TwinX or the Geil Ultra series?

I've got a Gigabyte G-Power Pro cooler. It's done well with my A64, so I assume it's going to be good with a Conroe.

Anyone got any suggestions about this spec?

g-skill seems to overclock very well & is good value for money, gets recommended a lot on here, might want to consider going for that instead rather than value ram. get the pc5300 stuff if you want to keep the price down.

Is the Gigabyte G-Power Pro socket 775 compatible?

Yeah the G-Power pro is compatible with LGA775.

Price drops this week show the DS3 at £103 and the G.Skill PC2 6400 at £125!!

Please, someone tell me that this memory is compatible with the motherboard!!!
