I really want a Capri and have seen one I like the look of atm. It'll be my first car but I haven't even got passed my test yet and was wondering if it was worth the price? I was thinking of offering £400 because £500 seems a little to much compared to what I've seen some go for. ANy advice would help me a lot. :D

SELLERS DESCRIPTION:
I am selling my Capri, as i need the money to spend on the Focus!

It is silver, 10months MOT and 4 months tax. It is in OK condition, the paint tatty in places, but runs very nice, and drives well. Passed the MOT no worries, so nothing major. Weber twin choke of the 1.6 laser, so it runs a lot better. Strut-tops and sills are good.

Engine is sound, starts 1st time and runs sweet!

Got Wolfrace alloys, tyres have pleny of tread.

The only thing it needs is a main beam unit on the drivers side, but its passed the MOT with the one thats there, so its not that bad!

Not sure what the price should be, offers around £500 i guess.

Does sound like very good value, I'd have a very, very thorough poke around at that price though!

I'm assuming that it is a 1.6, that's a shame. Sluggish to say the least!

i'm also looking for a capri for my next car, go and see it, and take a mate or family member who knows what they are doing, and have a good look for rust, capri's seem to rust like anything, use it as a bargining point.

/edit - the usual places for a capri, are the wrong of the wing next to the head lights, front edge of the bonnet, sills and wheel arches

Surely you mean 'They still understeer like the QEII', yeah?

Capris only go sideways on the road if they have silly power and you're driving in a manner that a, puts other road users in danger and b, will get the old bill onto you.

So, you typed that...and no-one has posted "OH NOES, NEW DRIVER + REAR WHEEL DRIVE = INSTANT CRASH" yet? Wow.....things are looking up for this forum at last.

Few things - as has been mentioned, the 1.6 is near glacial in it's performance. This isn't really a bad thing, as it provides the perfect excuse to pull the engine out and replace it with something better in the future when you get bored. Have you tried getting an insurance quote yet?

They are very expensive to insure, i tried to get one as my first car but couldnt get a quote under £2k and this was 5 years ago. Now with 5 years NCB i cant get a quote less than a grand :( :(

Fox probably won't....he'll just question the wisdom in buying an old Ford with no toys, or aircon, or anything approaching modern technology. But there are several people on here who I thought I could count on to say something that stupid :)

Try small specialist insurers, they're usually better for more unusual cars like this. Try looking through a copy of Classic Ford for insurers maybe? I'd get a Manta personally though, much better handling from all accounts and better looks IMO.

No its due to the fact a milkfloat has more power than that capri, instant death and new driver only happens if the car is capable of breaking traction under its own power, you will be hard pushed to loose the back end of that capri unless your doing something very very stupid indeed.

I wouldnt, an old ford would be a money pit, unless you're lucky.
Just spend as much as you can afford on a proper car.

Now I'm starting to get even worse ideas like getting a DeLorean which would cost me something like £1000 :(

Thanks for the help guys. Will go and have a look soon anyway.

Not as a daily driver no. Classic insurance usually means you do under 6,000 miles a year and dont use it to commute etc. Ill do more and commute in it etc :)

At that price, buy two and run each for 6k :D Probably save enough on the insurance to pay for the second one
