Hi there

Is it normal for the door locks on the Ford Focus 1.6L petrol 5 door 51 reg to open when you are driving by itself? For example all the doors are locked, my key is set so I press the open button once and it only opens the driver side door, all the over doors remain locked. Then I set of driving and after about 10-15 mintues I hear the passenger door unlock on its own. It does it all the time at around the same time after setting off. As I have only had the car a few days I am not sure if it is a fault or some type of setting with the locks and keys.

Anybody any ideas?

Thanks

Michael

You could be having a problem with the cold; Ive also got a Mk1 Focus and have similar issues sometimes in the winter. The electrics go mad sometimes, and as the car warms up I find the passenger doors unlock as Im driving. Also, Ive found that all the doors sometimes lock themselves, which means I get to play Door Lock Lottery every morning: go to car, start it up, shut the door and hope the car doesnt lock you out with the engine running whilse you're scraping the ice off the windscreen :/

Maybe it's an actual safety issue?

IE if you were to have an accident no one could actually enter the car to get you out if needed. I appreciate the security issue when driving through London etc but just a thought as i never have my doors locked when driving.

That is what I was thinking. Maybe some safety issue depending on how you program the keys or something.

Thanks

If it were the anti hi-jack system, the doors would lock, not unlock, as soon as you reached a certain speed, say 10mph, not randomly after 15 minutes of driving, surely? Maybe take a look at this page, and have a muck around witht the fob, maybe you can activate/deactivate it: http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=35&ht=Make your keyless entry remote unlock all doors wi

And Richochet - its a 10 year old LX, it has the QC windscreen installed (I can see the elements in the glass) but none of the wiring or the button to turn it on :p

Just an update regarding this issue. I changed the key setting so I only press the open door key once to open and close all the doors. But when I am driving I still here the click noise about 10 minutes into the drive, as though the car is trying to unlock the doors if they are locked.

Not a bit deal I hope but very strange.

Have a similar thing on my Mundano. It started off randomly locking the doors while I was driving and now the central locking stops working when it gets cold and then all the doors unlock after about 10-15 minutes as the car warms up.

Nothing critical but rather annoying when I need to get into the boot.
