Hi there,

Want to change my Fiesta ST to something more economical and pay off the existing finance so I can save for a house deposit.

Saw this today :

2003 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec, Metallic Grey, 25k, Alloys, Mint condition.

Could get it for around £5000 with a 3 month warranty, Full MOT, Service, etc etc.

Is this any good? Any help much appreciated.

1.6 is quite pokey but depending on the weight of your right foot can still be quite thirsty.... not like the st but still no Diesel!

£5k on an old model focus

We sold ours for £5,500 recently and thats was an 02 Chic Ltd Edition, the value of them is dropping quick as new models can be had for under £10k now.

They are good cars although I always found the 1.6 lacking powerwise, but we got rid of ours before prices dropped too much.

I haven't looked at the prices recently so perhaps it's stabled out but if you want to save money you can find cheaper yet still decent examples.

I wouldn't describe a 1.6 Focus as "pokey". Adequate (for a normal family hatchback) when you rev the nuts off it would be a more accurate description.

The TDCi diesel is faster and much nicer to drive, should get one of those for £5k, and you'll save on fuel as well.

i.ve had a 2000 1.6.... now have a 2004 2.0 zetec (actually the wifes car) the 1.6 could get to 60 in second (just) and the 2.0 only does 50 (i know different gearing) but it think i prefered the 1.6 round town. the old 1.8 derv was very underpowered (only driven the estate tho) but i have heard good things about the 2.0 tdci.

however i'll keep using my 2.3 seat for the long journeys cos all the mk1 focus is too loud!

I have a 2002 1.6 Zetec which does me fine. It aint no sports car, but it aint no slouch either.

I had one of them, brillant car very reliable! In 80k of driving the only problem i had was the pollen filter leaked once and i the passenger footwell was full of water!

I paid £4300 for an 02 Silver Edition which has the heated leather seats and also a whole load of extras fitted at the factory with 25k on the clock.

I think you would be hard pressed to find something else for that budget. The Focus is an oustanding car, i'm on my 2nd now :)

Was that a dealer or private?
