Ford GT90 Concept to be sold

I own one of those. I bought it in 1996 in Florida.

Unfortunately, its a 1:18 scale model made by Maisto. :D

Stuck my finger in the tailpipe of that very same car, random but true - I was wondering if it had been driven, or run (as the display it was on was completely devoid of information and it wasn't clear if it was just a display piece or running car), so was fishing around for soot :D Came out with a well-blackened fingertip so kind of answered my own question there....

This was a good 10 or more years ago now probably!

I am sure it would do more than 40mph, it runs a XJ220 suspension and gearbox and that engine although i think it was usually run with the wastegates open to reduce power 40mph should be no problem.
Clarkson spun it when he drove it
The GT90 is their first attempt and it seems to work rather well, because it is capable of 235mph, making it the fastest road car in the world. It does 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds so it is pretty sprightly on that front too. And because it is mid-engined, light and sits on a modified Jaguar XJ220 chassis, it should be pretty nifty through the bends too. Under the engine cover, you will find a 6000cc V12 which has four turbos. Total output is a staggering 720bhp, making it not only more powerful than the McLaren F1 but, significantly, more powerful than the McLaren F1 driven by Mika Hakkinen.

It's a looker too. They say there are hints of the GT40 but I couldn't find any. For a kick-off, there isn't a single curve on the car – every line is straight, except the roof which is a glass dome.

And that's why, when I drove this monster, the turbo's wastegates were jammed open, limiting me to just 440bhp. They say that if the engine were working at full noise, and the chassis could handle the onslaught, the glass would crack, splinter and break.

They were very, very worried about this $4 million one-off car as I set off for a couple of laps at Le Mans because the very next day it was off to the Tokyo show.

That's why I went so fast. To punish Ford for sucking up to the Japanese and ignoring just about the only market in the world that truly loves their ordinary cars, I had fun with the GT90.

Until one of its wheels came off. I'd been enjoying the bark of that V12 and experimenting with the radar sensors which ignite a red light in the door mirrors when you're being overtaken, when it all went horribly wrong.

The tail stepped out of line and even the downforce from its truly huge tail spoiler failed to prevent a spin. Unfortunately, there was no damage and I didn't hit anything, which means the fastest car in the world is sitting right now under the rising sun.

I have always loved that car I am glad it being sold as long as its not too that 72year old florida businessman who destroyed the Ford Indigo prototype, along with a bunch of other rare cars.

I hope Jay leno buys it at least then we can see it and he would probably make it run right too.

I think it's a hideous looking car. It looks like it's been designed by a right handed child using his left whilst offroading. Be interesting to see what it goes for tho.

Got any info on that?

Just had a quick read and it looks like Ford still own the working version of the Indigo.

From Wiki:
The functional concept is still owned by Ford. The non-functioning show car was auctioned.

But i hope someone like Jay buys it, the car needs a good home, i never liked this car back in 1996 but now it looks kinda cool.

I also read that the complete douche old guy (who's wrecked many a car) had also ruined a Ford Indigo?
Wreckedexotics I'm sure, although I've not got the e-mail anymore.

Yuck, horrible horrible wing mirrors and the rear is just as bad. Looks like a bastardised lambo. No wonder it didn't make it to production.

Clarkson says a lot of things that are not true/overly opinionated. :)

it was a concept car thrown together to look good on the stands.

High drivability was never the order of the day. I'm not surprised it was a dog to drive, as that sort of thing usually comes after the initial concept !

Thats ugly, some deisgners are trying to go futuristic instead of beautiful.

Some supercars, you get a little warm tingle in your loins because it's so beautiful, that looks like something out of a bad 80's movie.
