Ford Mondeo : Fuel Pump £1800? O.o

A friend of mine has just been told the fuel pump has gone on his Ford Mondeo Ghia Diesel 2001 (I'm not sure of the engine size)

The garage have told him it's going to be £1800 to fix !!! :eek:

Surely they are taking him for a ride, or does this sound anyway feasible?

He has told them not to go ahead and is working on getting the car towed home for now.

Thought so. You can actually get the petrol fuel pumps for £30 and fit them to the sender unit. That's what I did with mine

Not if it's a TDDi, as the pumps require coding to the immobiliser.

I don't think TDCi's require coding, though

Yes it really is....fortunately we have now become a 1 car family so it doesnt seem so bad at the minute what with reduced insurance and running costs.

reality will kick in shortly i am sure.

Oh and the Mrs may decide to fill up with petrol again and completely knack everything...that would be excellent.

Totally right, do they not pump fuel at crazy speeds? So my dad was telling me.

He found out the price after buying one. Bit worried now!
