Exactly what I was thinking. The whole point of congestion charge is to reduce traffic at peak times which is most of every weekday and they seem to be confusing that with fuel emissions. If everyone bought one of these fiestas, there'd be no congestion charge being paid, and traffic jams circa pre-ken livingstone would return.
 
Or you know, they change the brackets. It's a very good way of influencing the fleet. You just have to look at the average fuel eccomony of the uk fleet to see that these policies work.

And the vehicle license tax, hasn't been road tax for years/decades. So that arguments redudent. Abolished in 1937, so why people keep bring this up is beyond me.

VED main aim is to influence fuel efficiency.

Traffic numbers in London have already risen back above the levels seen before congestion charging was introduced, so expect the cost (once the mayoral election is done) to continue to rise.

See the TFL website to back up the first claim - the other claim is purely my own speculation... :)

their quoted mpg will be with a warm engine crusing on the flat at optimum speed on the motorway, my prius will cruise at I htink 56mph and say its doing 75 ish mpg, however in general use on short runs its more like 50 in the winter and 55 in the summer (60 at a puch if I am really careful).

Being a diesel I would like to know the real world figures of the more common runs (ie to the shops and round town)

Whilst they may no be representative of all drivers, they are indeed measured. This measurement is via the NEDC cycle
