Any good suggestions? I've been into foreign horror/thriller movies for a long while. A few ones I've enjoyed were:

Pans Lab
The Orphanage
Rec
Martyrs (very twisted film, but really well made)
Let the right one in

Just wondered if anyone had any good suggestions?

Thanks :)

À l'intérieur; Frontiers; Shutter [Thai]; Ils; Haute Tension.

I can't really be bothered with any more recommendations. These topics come up here every week, do a search.

1. Anti Christ (with Willem Defoe)

ill give you a warning, 1)its graphic... 2)its slow for the first 40mins

but was well worth for the photography which was quite amazing along with the sounds.

willem defoe's acting is top notch aswell.

2. Dead Girl (2008, not the brittany murphy one from 2006)

though like the above is quite graphic and twisted its these types of horrors that can leave a mark that make them horrors.

Shiloh Fernandez is fantastic and really reminds you of a young Joaquin Phoenix, hes going to big i hope.

they're my only suggestions for now as you seem to have all the pop international horrors already on that list.

Out of all the foreign horror movies I have watched, audition sticks in my mind as being the most disturbing. Especially the end scene, made my skin crawl like no other film.

lol

I would highly recommend the Italian Giallo's.

These fall into two categories, they are either extreme on sex and violence.

Or extreme on suspense and violence.

For the latter you could look at Tenebre, and Torso.

Here is a pretty good list of those that you should look out for if interested.

Bascially Dario Argento is the king of Giallo's so his films would be a good start.

I wouldn't. I mean, I like giallos but you're seriously recommending giallo films to someone into Martyrs and [REC]? Don't you think they'll find them at least slightly flat?

They look very dated now. I'd only recommend them to someone into the history of cinema. A lot of people would find them very drawn out and thin.

Still, it's a valid recommendation. You never know, it might flip a switch.

In that field I'd definately recommend Argento's Tenebre and Sleepless. Right on top of his game with those two. Deep Red (aka. Profondo Rosso) takes a bit more investment but is definately a rewarding watch.

Of course, Bava's A Bay of Blood (aka Twitch of the Death Nerve)should be seen - mainly, as you say, in a "history of cinema" sense to see the evolution of the genre towards the birth of the modern slasher.

It depends really, I think everyone that gets into Giallo's they got into them via watching Dario Argento's classics and wanted more. I know I did and was hooked from then on and watched most available on DVD.

So that would be Susperia, Deep Red and Tenebre. Which is why I had recommended Tenebre as a good one to watch first as it is probably the best with regards to story.

Torso is one of the best, and most suspenseful giallo's which is definitely a one to also consider watching first.

But if someone does not like the three Argento moves above I think it is safe to say the genre is not for them.

Is it just me, or is there actually someone who don't praise this film?
I found it to be quite average. Maybe it's because I can understand the Swedish (which btw was translated very badly so half of the 'good stuff' got lost)

On-topic: There is loads of good Japanese horror films. Can't think of any at the top of my head but most places that rent out films have a selection of Japanese horror so you should go have a look :)

Picked this up in Blockbuster a while back as part of the 4 for a tenner rental deal, only because of the good word of mouth it's had and there was nothing else on the shelf I fancied. It was the only one I didn't watch and to be honest, it looks so pretentious.

Hi,

I havent seen it myself but my ex used to rave on about "a tale of two sisters" (Janghwa, Hongryeon) a korean horror film. Looking around the interweb it seems to get consistently positive feedback.

Cheers,
Hugest
