Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Maybe look at some evening courses at a college nearby? Acquire Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and start doing some online tutorials or even find a book or a magazine that focuses on digital design. It's not too late, and its something you can do in your spare time for little to no cost :)

That's my thinking, I have Photoshop already luckily, I'm in a decent position to get something going for once, so I just need to act and do it. It's just a scary prospect!

I know of one website that I used to use when I liked 3d modelling, so I'll have a dig about on there for some tutorials, they also host monthly competitions and stuff, so it should help.

Can I email your trust? Seeing as you're doing the job that I've got interviews for, I thought I could get some tips :)

well another day another work program appointment that was a wasted journey. seems the security work that they had lined up has probably gone (they dont know).

so role on another christmas of being a jobless bum.

Congrats :D

Getting a bit depressed with my situation at the moment, just cannot seem to find work. Applying for so many jobs, have done voluntary work in the hopes that there might be something at the end, been applying for day shift and night shifts too. Getting to the point where I'm starting to think I'm unemployable. Currently on the work programme and I think I have some mandatory work placement stuff coming up which honestly I'm looking forward too, if only in the extremely slim chance I might get a job at the end of it :p

Do CVs need the 'Mission Statement' written in the third person at the beginning? Or is that a bit to '2010' now?

Is there a current favourite style OcUK recommend?

Worms, can of. Some HR people hate it, others like it. Some guides say yes, others say no. If you do put it in though, make sure that a) you can justify every word, and b) you can remember at interview what you put in it.

Appreciate that, thinking it through further in my head, as it's for a technical role, I'd be best to keep my CV more business like, rather than say if I was applying to be a hair dresser!

Got an interview tomorrow at an electronics firm as an electronic engineer technician, unfortunately nor exactly what i went to uni for but it seems theres more emphasis on r&d than hands on stuff so could be very good :)

Finally get myself out of retail hell if all goes well!

Just wondering what I should wear for the interview, im guessing a suit and tie might be pushing it?

cheers

Apologies for late response - jsut saw this.

I'm sure there's a fair bit of work in the area of your Masters. Any large business (institution or producer) with operations in countries where war or terrorism is prevalent might have divisions that might be interested in your background. Areas like insurance, oil and gas, banking, government, etc. could be a start. Sounds quite vague, but it's worth following up.

A mate of mine has just done an MPA and is looking for work in a similar area. For example, most investment banks will have teams focusing on maintaining relationships (and to a large scale running PR campaigns) with local governments, authorities and institutions in "unblanaced" markets and regions, and my mate is trying to go down that route.

It's normally a good idea to figure out which type of firm you want to work for and in which industry, and then go from there - i.e. do you want to work for a large firm in London, or would you want to work locally somewhere abroad. Once you've settled on these kind of decisions, then it's much easier to plan you path.

Ahhhh, cheers for the ideas! I have a couple of things that are past the "you filled out the form so we will start to consider you stage" and am starting to come across a few more jobs I can at least get considered for (found a few research intern posts which would be a decent start).

Hopefully something will come good soon enough though.

Had my first interview in London today, felt like it went really well. Got some lunch afterwards and got a phone call from the agency giving me feedback. They said the employer was impressed with me and I should hear back by the end of the week :)

Got one more interview on Thursday, feeling a bit more confident now.

Also thanks to Delvis for a few tips :)

Good work dude :)

Good luck with the response :)

Got an interview tomorrow as a 'Commercial Trainee' then one as a marketing/finance assistant on Monday. Hope I get one of them so I don't have to keep the Royal Mail Xmas job, having to get up at 5am won't be fun.

Got laid off from work due to not having any more work for me to do, bit annoyed that they literally told me 3pm on a friday that its my last day. If more work comes up after xmas employer/agency will let me know but I'm not holding my breath. :(

Job searching doesn't seem to be any easier this time round. :o
