Forgot how bad job searching was :(

talk to me about Brass Rings?

I had a quick google but didn't find my answer, so so so many jobsites and adds have 'brassring' in the title, is it a company? Some web system lie SAP? or ???

I was once told that if someone gets made redundant then that job title goes with them too so when they hire someone new to do the same job it has to be a different title as well?

This probably explains why job titles are so bizarre :p

My boss and I do the same job, so effectively it's a partnership in being boss!

Edit*
I just realised this is probably why we get stuff fixed and rolled out so fast, damn we're good :D

IIRC this is only true if that role is being replaced within 6 months of the original redundancy.

Hmm that would explain some of the titles I've seen advertised around places and even internally here!

huge coincidence!

Back in June of this year I had my very first appraisal, with my current employer. Boy did they praise me. So much so that I believed a pay increase was sure to come my way. So you can imagine how I felt when my manager told me I wouldn't be receiving a raise.

After being told this I made my feelings clear. It only took me around 6 months to realise I was being underpaid by a substantial amount and that there were other companies out there offering more, to do the same type of work. Despite this my manager wasn't budging.... Feeding me the economy isn't do so well crap.

Frustratingly, all I could do was accept their decision. Which was backed up with a formal letter. Basically saying theyve reviewed the average salary for my particular role. And as result they will not be increasing my salary. After receiving this I just laughed, as I knew that was a load of crap.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago - I'm on the indeed website looking for jobs when I come across role that looks perfect. Not only that, its offering up to 10k more than what I'm currently on! I send my CV off. Only to realise (a few mins later) that the job was posted over 2 months ago.

The following day i decide to contact the recruiter to find out whether the job is still available. The first thing the recruiter asks is whether or not I'm still working for my current employer. I say "yes".... He then asks whether I'm alone.... At this point I'm thinking what on earth is going on. Then he hits me with it. The role was for my potential co-worker.

Upon hearing this I felt sick. The recruiter urged me to keep this to myself. I couldn't believe what I had heard.

Believing I was being underpaid was one thing... But to find out like this almost drove me crazy. The recruiter said I should try not to dwell on it too much (easy for him to say lol). Instead I should update my CV (the recruiter thought t would help if I beefed it up a little).

Anyways, after making some big changes to my CV I received calls from recruiters within a matter of days.

For one particular role I've passed two interview stages. The last interview takes place next week and my recruiter is confident I'll be offered the job!

Would love to know what you guys would've done? Would you have disclosed the fact that you had seen their job posting?

If you get that job new offer i'd certainly be going to your manager and saying i know your offering more, so pay up or im leaving!

The opportunity to do so may soon arise.

Until then I'm just trying my best to appear satisfied.

Just had an offer at the top end of the range the agency put across, in my interview I stated a higher range (2k higher)so they've come in at the very top of one range and in middle of mine. The agency are basically refusing to negotiate for the additional 2k... I hate agencies but don't see what else I can do.

The agent is lying their pants off saying the original range for the job was the very bottom of the range and that even by asking the client will likely retract the offer. This pees me off as I know that's likely a load of baloney but without being aggressive I can't force him to do so. Eurghh.

That's ridiculous DAIR, bunch of gits.

Hope you get something you deserve matey, I hate nasty employers

It's demoralising. I do a good job and they know it. Yet I've received no raise or bonuses to date.

All enthusiasm for this role died after the big revelation. I'm simply looking forward to the Day I leave this place.

Probably, one of the reasons I left a previous job was because after a team mate of mine had left (we did the exact same role), the company put up ads on Gumtree for the job with a nice £3k-£4k increase on the starting salary that I got when I joined 16 months previous, and wouldnt change mine.

No way was I going to be sitting there every day teaching someone everything they need to know and getting paid less than them.

Got confirmation of hotel arrangements for me going down to Aberdeen for the 'Baker Hughes Experience' (two day assessment center basically) for their Field Engineer Position, eeek! On the 27th and 28th of November, not long!

Fingers crossed I'll be employed at the end of the month :)

You confronted them?

Thanks! There's very little information online, found 2 or so people writing about how it went, but that was a while ago, and not in the UK :p

To prepare they said just make sure you know about Baker Hughes and what they're all about, and what is expected of the position.

It seems to be a mix of team work and presentation projects, will have to see!

They also said bring suitable clothing for the first day, 'as you may be getting dirty', they also wanted my foot size, so will probably provide some form of protective foot wear, god knows what for!

Eek, I think I'm more nervous about getting/not getting the job than what the actual two days will consist of :)
