Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray unveils new car

I think it's over-rated. As has been pointed out, the fuel economy isn't impressive enough when you consider the kind of efficiency mainstream manufacturers are wringing out of engines. It's great that it could be produced very cheaply and with low cost and energy expenditure, but lets face it- it's never going to get built in any quantity is it?

Gordon doesnt care if this car doesnt sell very well

Its a showcase for his "istream" (why does everything have to have an i in its name these days) production method.

He's already said it can be adapted to manufacture 5, 8 seater cars, or even busses.

He's already got a few buyers for it i believe, there was an article in evo about it a while ago.

Bingo.

Im all for this concept and massively his iStream modular system, especially as more and more people live in cities with crap pubic[sic] transport (hello London) having the option to have more small weather proof vehicles in a win.
Ill still be on my bike mind :D

Exactly

he's not trying to get people out of their cars into this thing and abandon the mondeo.

This is a showcase, emerging car markets will love it as its a way to make cars very cheaply. equally the eco nutty europeans will probably love it too.It will make him a ton of cash, hardly any of which will come from the T25

I'd say that Murray's done better previously.

If they improve on the engine with a slightly larger and more efficient one it would be alright. Currently room to improve, but he admits that this is a prototype and he is selling a manufacturing process not really the actual cars.

Now we're talking sense :)

Why? It's absolutely awful.

Why do thse type of cars always look like cheapo Smart Car knock-offs? God you'd have to pay me to drive one of those. :/

I can't imagine what people will be driving in 20-30 years time. There will be no supercars or anything decent anymore, it'll just be tiny, ugly, electric things.

From McLaren F1 to piece of crap. Fantastic.

I quite like it, although the figures don't add up to me, with nearly 100 bhp per ton it should be way fast 0-60 than 16 seconds?

I wondered this too, it's got around 89 bhp/tonne which ought to make it quicker at accelerating. I realise it's got an auto box, but even so- it shouldn't be sapping that much power. It should be about two or three seconds quicker looking at the data.

The prototype was originally unveiled years ago - why has the BBC only now made a thing about it? I agree about the mpg, a polo bluemotion is a real car and can do that!
