Forza 2 latest Update and Demo Discussion Thread

:p

All I meant was that in real life, any crash into a solid object much above 25 is going to render the car knackered.

(and much above 40, the driver dead!)
But it's a sim, and race drivers in race prepped cars are much safer than regular road cars.

It is understandable. I doubt there will ever be truly realistic crashes in games and who would really want there to be?
It wont happen properly with true realism for a good generation or two I doubt, with the amount of calculations you need to actually have a realistic crash, you'd have to have fully modelled chassis to quite a silly detail to get correct deformation etc, it'd take ages to render a few frames on a normal PC/console I'd have thought.

How much fun it'd be in a proper race game, I don't know. It'd probably be great for the ultra-sim nuts out there, but for those that want a little effortless fun, then they don't want their cars to rip to pieces every time they make a little mistake.

Thanks for some good updates today men.

Been busy with the business today sorting customers so havnt had just as much free time or should i say time off skiving...

Personally I dont see the point in uber-realistic damage. It would probably look cool the first few times you had a big crash, but soon the novelty would wear off. If I want to see fancy crashes I'll play Burnout. I mean Forza 2 has damage, and like the first game it can effect your cars performance. I dont see why you would want anything more than that.

"Because it's a sim" * infinity.

So if your nice lovely ride you spent ages doing up got smashed beyond repair in a blazing fireball, would that mean starting from scratch again? Or would it magically respawn in the next race in a sphere of realism?

It's really not about it looking cool, or making people go 'wow crash'. It's more the feel you get on the track, when you're holding your machine on the circuit.

Motorsport has elements of danger, and I'd argue the more you can sense that - the greater the experience. Holding everything together, knowing that you're right on the edge of losing it all.

I know that sort of thing doesn't appeal to most gamers but if you want to know why I want damage there you go.

Be interesting to see a comparison shot of the same car and corner on the 'ring from PGR3.

Yeah hope someone does it and also maybe consider comparing with GT4 which i think has had the best RING from past games.

I know where you coming from and in most cases I would agree, I just dont think it would work in a game like this where you spend a lot of time earning credits and doing up your own cars. Fair enough in an F1 game or similar where if you wreck a car you probably wont die and can jump straight in to a spare car. But its just in Forza you have to spend credits when your car gets damaged and I duno how that would work if your car got totally owned.

it'll teach you to take the proper lines and get used to braking points, which was fun in forza 1.

im not to worried if it doesnt look to sharp when released aslong as it plays well.
