Forza 3 - Time Trial Championship

Did my best, alas it doesn't seem to have been good enough, put in about 45 laps on Manual (no clutch) and ABS only, 1.04.299, might give it a shot later in the week, too :)

Not the best of tables as I dont know how to do as per the op. Times are close, prefer these on smaller circuits. I feel doing it on the full ring will be annoying as just touching the grass or even too much apex can render your time useless :(

6 laps in I got 1:04.200, then spent another 30 fruitlessly chasing it before the whiteness of the stupid honda made me fear for my precious plasma. More attempts tomorrow, maybe... oh and, I forgot to snap the final screen, but you can see several OcUKers here...

Exactly, it's so long it acts as the great leveller, the chance of anyone getting around it perfectly is pretty slim, so, if you make one or two mistakes, everyone else probably did too.

Yea but when you go to view your time it brings up something stupid.. I just prefer proper race tracks. Something like Cataluyna would be good.. Fairly long, loads of places to make time on each other

Here's my time, I don't think I'll be beating it, ABS Auto and breaking line only.

Turning off Ghosts does help me, I think, as I only have to worry about what I'm doing at that moment, not what I was doing a lap or so ago.

Need to have a play with this one with the line into some corners, this car has excellent grip under power and it seems unusual lines are faster.

I'd also recommend giving manual a shot. It doesn't take too long to get used to and once you do your times will improve by quite abit.

Manual no clutch with abs.

I knocked over 2 secs off by going from Auto to Manual. I now even use it for races etc. You realise how CRAP auto mode is in this game, just doesnt hold gears and changes at the wrong time. What gear you guys taking the last corner in? I was taking it in 3rd, but left it in 4th and knocked .200 off my time!

I'll start giving manual a go then. I did try it the other day but kept forgetting to change gear and when I did remember my fingers got confused when my brain was telling them to release accelerator, press break, shift down, scratch nuts.

Confusing.

Also, turning ABS off might help, depending on how you're braking at the mo. Do you just use the brake as on/off or do you modulate it and try to slow down without triggering the ABS light? If the former, try turning it off and being more 'floaty' with the brake as you can stop a lot quicker and brake later into corners. Generally you can get it 80% of the way down before the wheels lock, I think

Auto seems to be set for efficient acceleration, the problem is when it changes up too early. Depends on the car - some change up a couple of hundred rpm before the limiter, others like the Integra have a good 700rpm+ to spare. There's a couple of corners on this track where with my driving style the auto will change up to 4th a couple of seconds before you brake for say a 2nd gear corner. Use manual and hold on to 3rd past the red line and it's worth at least a couple of tenths. I was nearly a second quicker on manual even using the pad.

I tend to leave ABS on as it's a useful safety net. I progressively brake and hardly trigger it.

Traction control off unless it's RWD with more than 450bhp...

I really should borrow the wheel of my mate and give that a try.

Oh I have seen the light, and its name is Manual Gears. One lap to get used to it, one to set a mildly quicker time, then this:

1:03.412

-edit-

further mild improvement; 1:03.359

This manual gear thing is going to take some getting used to. I'll just practice and practice this till I get it sussed. I am wondering if it'd be a little easier with a wheel and some pedals as it's what all us drivers are used to.

I really can see how it will improve my times a fair bit once I have it sussed. On this track when I cross the start/finish line I am usually in the high 80 mph range. In manual I am getting there in the 90's. I've just got to get my fingers doing what they're told when they're told now ;)

Well, I was doing 1.04s, and then I just set a 1.03.457 and with a ridiculous first corner so thats 3 tenths there, after that I thought it was a good lap, so that elusive last 10th down to 1.03 dead i think will be won on the rumbles and maintaining good speed on the last corner.. nice lap Latte!
