Not the greatest of threads but finding this has really cheered me up :D The picture has to be around 5 or so years old, i didnt realise google earth was that out of date tbh.

Deffo my car as i was the only person who use to park across my dads garage bay :p and it deffo looks green!

Look up your gaff and see if you can spot your motor, lets just hope you dont get as excited as i did though :(

Do i need to download google earth or can i chuck my post code in a website? (i really cba to google it).

And makes u wonder. Where did they get the insane images/data from?, and who took them 5 yrs ago, and why? :(. Hmm. I'm scared.

the data is old, you're right

what's funny is we put in our postcode at work and the office wasn't even there, just a big open area next to PC World.

Looked again a month later and the images for the region were all updated....now PC World is literally half built!

It looks funny, don't really know why they'd switch to older images. not much better quality or anything

can someone explain this to a noob

just downloaded google earth and seem to be able to move around and zoom in and out

when I get any closer than a whole town it is all out of focus

what am i doing wrong ?

Some areas are in high detail and others aint, could be your house aint in the high detail area :(

looking at las veags at the monment can pick out buildings but all I get is a grey shape not a true picture

I know this aint a general Google earth thread, but check out Las Vegas some of the best detail i've seen!

Will post a pic of my house in a tick!

Try starting it in OpenGL or Directx Mode should be in the shortcuts on your start menu, check your options in the google earth.

Possible yours is just taking some time to download you have a progress download indicater at the bottom of the map

Rotty wait till the streaming bar is 100% and thats the best detail it can give you, if you cant make it out go closer still.

cheers tried that , must be something I am doing as I cant even get any focu on the grand canyon to less than about 20 miles across

Found a pic of my dads old Ford Capri 2.8i, images must be quite old as that car was sat on the drive for about 3 years then stripped down for parts when i bought my own just over a year ago.

Piccy shows it at my dads workplace which it aint visited in a long time (its gone to the scrappys about 4 months back as rust got a real good hold of it)

Might not have high-res data that far out of the city :)

You'll be seeing 15 metre Landsat7 data. Edit: Actually no, it looks like they don't show that. Looks like you're seeing the old Blue Marble, which iirc is 500m or 1Km per pixel resolution.

Now...here's a better screenshot from World Wind, with 1m USGS data, topographic maps and elevation ;)

:)

Elevation data I believe is the same spec as Google Earth, but World Wind's US coverage is much better. World Wind can also do layer blending...what you see there is a combination of topographic maps and the black and white imagery, which looks odd but cool. You can see the Canyon better if you just use the 1m USGS data and zoom in, though the elevation doesn't look so good at high zoom levels as it's only accurate to 15 meters.
