Framerate issues with an X1800XT?

I've recently built my new PC, AMD X2 3800+, 2gb RAM, ATi X1800XT.
When running FEAR at full settings with 4x AA and 16x AF, I was getting some frame rate issues in certain areas for reasons I couldn't really see, always certain areas but they didn't seem to be particularly graphically taxing areas.

What's the deal with this? Am I just overshooting myself with my settings?
I thought it would obliterate this game, I've only tried FEAR and Battlefield 2 so far, BF2 runs without a hitch on highest everything and 4x AA.

Any advice?

Fear is very badly coded, if you arnt having any problems with any other games and your 3dmarks are on par then thats what I would put it down too, If I was running fear on a X1800XT I would use 2xaa and 8x/16xaf for a smooth game.

Most likely, I have to run 2xAA with my 7800GT to get any good framerate.

What resolution are you using?

Things to check:
- Do not use Soft Shadows, this cuts the fps in half and doesn't look all that good.
- Try light and shadow to medium, this looks almost as good
- if you enabled EAX advanced HD try it with it disabled.

Does this sound right?

4255 3D Marks Overall.

SM2.0 Score: 1753
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 1751
CPU Score: 1464

Is that about right for my system?

Seems about right. Check the ORB though for a good comparison.
