out of curiosity, what would the downside be to this happening?

it would make it harder to insure as most mainstream insurers dont want to touch Q plate cars.

Q plate are normally imports where no date of manufacture is available, or that it has been built from a significant proportion of used parts - ie a kit car.

There are insurers who will gladly insure you, but a large ammount of insurers wont.

It would reduce the resale value of your car. Nobody wants a Q plate, they are usually fitted to cars where the age or date of first use is unclear. In the past this often meant cars rebuilt from old shells etc :eek:

You also cant put a private plate on a Q plate car either.
 
I've not had a front plate on the Westfiled for two years.
