hey guys,
im using fraps to make a clan video, and boy is it dragging the FPS down
i wnt to record at 1024, but the file sizes are HUGE,

im editing in pinnacle, and i was basically wonderign if there was a tweaking guide for frpas, gettign the best quality for quantity, or indeed if theres another more tunable program outthere to record CSS footage ?
im rapidly running out of storage space, and i cant play with like 15 FPS, although it is mostly 15, depending ion the server.

is there a way to tweak my dual cores to my advantage or anything,
all the other members will need the same advice id imagine.

any advice guys ?
Rick

CSS has an ingame recorder i believe. Check google for the console command.

Other than that, with fraps, its always best to have the latest video drivers isntalled for your card. Record in Half size no full and at 25fps. Thats the best settings I have found. If you have graphics options in CSS like anistropic(sp?) filtering on, then turn it off, it will lag u up even more.

but that will mean im gonna have to play at twice the res of 1024, then record at half size to get 1024 res for my vids right ?

res is serious issue :(.
recording is not toooo bad, i can manage with 25 fps, but its those file sizes man !!
its like 1 GB for 45 seconds !
ive read i hacve to compress htem, but... whats the ebst way to do it without loosing the near perfect quality ?

thanks.

You could connect your pc to a standalone dvd-rw it would record it at 25/30fps perfect quality with no slowdown at all.

Best way to compress them is to use virtual dub with the xvid codec at something like 1mbps. That will give you near dvd quality.

You need to make sure you are using the mpeg version of virtual dub if your encoding mpeg2. And you should install the klite codec pack full version.
Then open up virtual dub, drag the video you want to convert into it, then goto the video dropdown menu and select fast recompress, then on the dropdown menu select compression, scroll down the list and select divx, then goto configure and change the setting to 1,200kbps, click ok. Then goto audio dropdown box and click, full processing, then on the menu select compression, choose the windows media audio v2 codec and on the other menu select 96kbps 44khz stero. Then click ok. Now goto the file menu and select save as avi, then call the file what you want and click save.

Of course this is a general setting, you can change them to suit the video you are converting or decrease them if the size is too big or increase them if the quality is too low. For best compression you could use the xvid codec for video and ogg vorbis for audio but most people who you would be giving these videos to would not have the codecs installed on their pcs.

This should be in the software forum.
