is there any free to use, or if failing that, almost free to use systems for online payments on for credit and debit cards?

The customer was going to use paypal but decided she didn't like how it takes you to another website so wants something else.

Anyone?

I was going to say Paypal until...

...in which case, unfortunately - no :)

Paypal sounds perfect for her really, people know the brand and whatnot - the advantage of on-site processing is when you're selling to corporate users, want to easily do recurring billing, etc etc - or of course if you just want to look more professional.

Unfortunately such things come at a price. If the budget/need is there, I'd recommend looking into a merchant account with her bank (a few hundred quid) + using ProTx as a card capturer (£20/mo) :)

HSBC will give you a free merchant account for a year after which you just pay fees for transactions (no recurring charges). You will need to put together a business plan and arrange an appointment with your branch manager. They are normally pretty good about startups.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did look into protx but is very pricy.

It would have to be nearly free as its only costing her £65 which includes hosting and domain name so i only got £31ish from doing it.
