looking for a free email address that has an auto response thing.

Get a Gmail account and you can do this: Auto respond

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=25922

(if you get a gmail via uk site it will be a googlemail.com account, but your username will still work if you use gmail.com, just preference really)
