Sure, this may not be the same as the other 'Free stuff' threads but i felt this was worth a post.

The EHIC entitles you to reduced cost (or soemtimes free) healthcare where treatment becomes necessary during a temporary visit to other countries of the European Economic Area or Switzerland. The card is only valid for treatment offered under the state healthcare schemes operating in these countries; it gives you access to treatment under the same terms as people that live in the country you are visiting.

I was only made known about this a few days ago and in my eyes, it's a pretty useful thing to have, especially as it doesn't cost anything. Mine arrived in 3 days.

It replaces the old E111 forms... which are now no longer valid so definitely a must get if you do Eurpoean travel!

And here was me thinking the EU was only ever good for 'tekkin ** jbs' and dodgy German porn......

Just do not forget this is in NO WAY a replacement for insurance when you go abroad.
All it in theory gives you is the rights to recieve the same kind of health care that you would get as a local.
If you have a major accident this card will not get you flown home etc.

Good stuff, been meaning to get one of these. Finally done it because of your thread. Cheers.

We got ours 3 days after emailing, and that was done at night, so there is a govt. dept which actually works!!!!!

I have one, but I also have an austrian e-card and health insurance paid by my employer, so its not that usefull now but it would have been a lifesaver if something happened in the first month of moving here.
