hey all, i've been looking round for cheap eye tests and i've found this on the d&a opticians website;

Get a Fresher Look
Get a Free Eye Test, Free Contact Lens Assessment and for a limited period only 20% off Glasses at Dollond & Aitchison.

put your email address in online and voucher is mailed to you, print it off take it into store and *bammo*.

now on the page where it offers the voucher it says;

Not only are we offering a FREE Eye Test and FREE Contact Lens Assessment and trial, but Students for a limited period are entitled to 20% off a complete pair of glasses. At D&A choose from a great range of designer and own brand frames. We're confident that you'll find a fresher look this Autumn Winter season.

so fair enough the 20% off glasses is just for students, not interested in those as i'm looking for a contact lense prescription.

terms and conditions on the voucher they mailed to me are:

Free Eye Test and Contact Lens Assessment + Trial
Book your appointment today to take advantage of a Free Eye Test and Contact Lens Assessment + Trial.

Terms & Conditions:
Closing date: 31/12/2007
Free Eye test T&C's
Voucher entitles the holder to a FREE Eye Test.
Special offer available at any Branch of D&A on presentation of this voucher.
This voucher cannot be used with an NHS eye test or any other eye test offer.
The cash redemption value of this voucher is 0.00001p. Only one voucher per customer, which must be surrendered at time of purchase.
Photocopies will not be accepted.
Free Eye Test may not be applicable in Scotland due to the change in legislation.

Contact Lens Assessment + Trial T&C's
Voucher entitles the holder to a free contact lens assessment & trial.
To qualify for this offer all you need is a recent eye test prescription within the last 12 months.
Free trial applies to selected lenses.
Either one pair of Daily Reusable contact lenses (and solutions) or 5 pairs of Daily Disposable contact lenses.

all seems fine yeah?

the only reason i'm worried is that while i found the other simply by clicking the special offers section of their website i've just noticed it says in the web addy:

http://www.danda.co.uk/students/

though it mentions nothing about the eye test voucher being for students in the actual text on the page or terms and conditions and the wording is indicative that the 20% offer is an extra benefit for students and the other offer is open to all, at least in the way i'm reading it: 'Get a Free Eye Test, Free Contact Lens Assessment and for a limited period only 20% off Glasses at Dollond & Aitchison.'

so, essentially does this sound to you guys as if it's open to anyone to use?
just want to be sure as i've just found out that it might be cheaper to buy my contact lenses online rather than from opticians but i need an up to date eye test and a bit of advice as i need a toric lense for my left eye.

thanks for any help.

Dan

Looks to me like FREE eye test and FREE contact lens trial. But students are only allowed 20% off geptacles.

Only way is to ask them. Give your branch a ring.

If that D&A ends up being too good to be true specsavers are still offering the same deal i think. i had mine done there for free recently and they give you a choice of 5 pairs of contacts or a pair of the continuous wear ones.

They were also dead nice to go in and see as well, remembered my name everytime i drop in and were easy to talk to. First large company i can think of where several staff remembers my name everytime i go :D.

heh, thanks for the advice but i don't need nice. i'm going to be screwing over the people by going to the internet for my contact lenses, i don't want to feel guilty about it!

actually that's partly why i'm not going to specsavers I get my contacts and glasses from there already and they always treat me well remember my name and have a chat with me when i go in and all that. it's just so much cheaper over the net that i'll be dropping their contact lense scheme, don't want to be rubbing their noses in it as well by getting them to give me a free eye test to provide to my new source.

I understand what you mean, but havn't been able to find a retailer online thats significantly cheaper than in the specsavers store. I found a couple but i was only saving a couple of quid.

Meh, go in have the test, get a copy of the prescription. You still need to be going in for eye checks really to keep an eye on any problems that arise due to the use of contact lenses... its generally advised to be once every 3 months or so as the lenses can affect the health of your eyes pretty quickly if your not suitable for the specific ones your using.

I don't understand this bit. Everybody is entitled to free eye tests up here are they not?

i think scotland and wales get free eyetests so i don't know what that means. possibly that the voucher isn't valid simply because it's free anyway.

joys of devolution.
