Hi Guys
not sure if anyone has seen this but heres a nice free vista firewall. it seems very easy to use and best of all its free :D i was looking for a free vista firewall for ages and this will do me just fine till comondo bring out there Vista version. anyway i think its a lot better than the built in windows one . it comes in two versions 32 bit and 64 bit
:)

If I remember correctly this is not a standalone firewall but instead is just a simple f/e (in free version) to allow application control for the built-in Vista firewall.

If this is the case, then you're better off just managing Vista's firewall manually.

i never knew you could manage Vista's firewall manually. how do you do that ? can it be set so it asks you if you want to let a program in and out. mine never seems to ask anything. it just does it. and thats what i don't like about Vista's firewall

I use Vista Business at home and I think it's called "Windows Firewall with Advanced Configuration".

Assuming a new program is trying to access the net then Vista/Windows Firewall (assuming it's turned on) should ask you if you want it allowed or not.

Yeah, it's a snap in as far as I remember. 2 secs and I'll have a look where it is.

edit:

ok pop this in run

Code:
%SystemRoot%\system32\WF.msc

Also accessible via Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

Hi Guys
this must be a stand alone firewall as i have the built in Vista firewall turned off and its still working

In 'Advanced Security' snap-in, there are various profiles (Public, Private etc). You are possibly using a different profile that is still enabled.
