Freesat on LG TV not working

Hi all,

I’ve recently cancelled Sky Q so thought I’d give the built in freesat on the LG OLEDB6V a go.

I attached one of the cables from the Sky dish to the TV and tuned in the channels. It found 151 channels and the EPG works fine but when selecting a channel I just get an ‘invalid service’ message.

Has anybody come across this before? Any fixes that I can try?

Thanks

Ah thanks guys! Didn’t think it would be as simple as attaching the cable!

I’ll go and grab a cheap freesat box today and see if that works.

Unfortunately a "cheap" (presuming used) box won't help either - it specifically has to be the latest Freesat boxes as pictured here:

Annoying! So assuming something like this won't work?

I looked into changing the LNB but thought a box would be easier. Would the LNB you've posted above still work with Sky Q? I assume I would need to swap the cables back or fit an extra cable for the freesat?

Why is everyone bashing their head against a brick wall to get the message in to your skull, and why is it important that anything new still works with SkyQ? Your OP says you've cancelled SkyQ.

Your options are pretty simple. This isn't difficult stuff to understand matey.

  • New style SkyQ LNB + old style satellite TV receiver = No blooming picture - i.e. It don't work, mucca

  • New style SkyQ LNB + cheap (old style) satellite TV receiver = No blooming picture - i.e. It still don't work, mucca

  • New style SkyQ LNB + New style satellite TV receiver = It works, but you spent a sh... a tonne of money on a new 4K Freesat box

  • Change to old style Quad LNB = Your LG TV now works

  • Change to old style Quad LNB = any cheap Freesat receiver will work

If for some bizarre reason you want to keep the LNB so it will still work with the SkyQ that you cancelled then your options are either the expensive 4K Freesat box or changing the Q LNB to a hybrid (2x Q outputs, 4x legacy outputs).

** No personal insults - EVH **
I fully understand what people are telling me but god forbid I know nothing about LNBs and I ask a simple question. People have kindly answered these questions and explained the difference to me. I don't see anybody bashing their head against a wall.

My reasons for wanting to keep Sky Q working are pretty obvious but quite frankly nothing to do with you at the same time!

I really don’t get what you’re getting at. Fluffybob said he had to get a ‘new freesat box’ which I interpreted as just needing to go and get a new box (cheap as I don’t need recording etc)!

Absolutely nobody wasted their time, I read all of the responses and knew exactly what I needed to get before you decided to chirp up!

Sky is already cancelled and box sent back…so no need to ‘educate me’ on that either.

I’m moving into my new house soon and I’m keeping my current house as a BTL so I don’t want to cause any hassle for any future tenants in case they want to get Sky Q etc. Is that a good enough reason for you? But…before you come back with another smart response I also read the reply that stated Sky would replace the LNB if anybody was to sign up.
