Hi Folks,

A lass at my office had an accident on the way to work last night, shes owns a little X Reg Clio, some chap pulled out on her from a side street on a duel carrigway, where she was in the inside lane closest to the central reservation, and he clipped her on the rear quater on her rear arch.

She took the guys phone number and his address, she has been in touch with West Midlands Police, but they're being un-helpfull, shes going to try another station tonight. Shes called him and sent texts and is refusing to give his registration (Thats the problem because she didnt take it on scene) what can she do as it is clearly this guys faul as he has moved out into traffic and clipped her from behind, so he had seen her.

The guy is saying he only passed his test the day before last and is still refusing to give his registration so she can contact her insurance.

She is with Direct Line and is F/C so she has the ininsured drivers protection.. but what can she do?

Cheers folks

She took the guys phone number and his address,

Why not go round to the house and get the reg number? You won't even have to talk to him, just pull up outside and get the number of the car when it's on the drive etc.

She tried that last night but the car wasn't on the drive.. I've said to her to try again tonight and I think shes going to..

Phone the insurance company, give them the details she has and let them sort it out. If it's that obvious who is at fault, they'll find the person concerned, especially with a name and address.

Has she contacted her insurers and asked them what she should do? It's in their interests to recover their costs (as she's FC I'm assuming they'll pay out) so I'm sure if she gave them the guys number they'll contact him.

\Edit - beaten to it (several times over).

D/L have said that the need the registration in order to do anything

1) Phone the police again, explain that you were in an accident and the other party left without giving full details

2) Phone the insurance company and report it

Shes sent him a messege saying that if he basically doesn't cough up that shes going to the Police with him name and address and telling them that he has left scene without giving full details :)

Hope she gets it sorted. No excuse for withholding details like that. Must be worried as he's totally to blame for the accident.

Good luck and let us know how you get on! :)

gt

He's now texted the reg, and i've cheked it for her, and its comes back with a Silver Vauxhall Corsa :D

So shes gonna ask our MD upstairs as he's a legal guru for this sort of thing :)

Good luck with it. If there is *any* doubt at all about anything, contact police. And phone insurance company ASAP too, as they should be informed immediately.

Now that you have the reg no I'd just pass the details onto the insurance company tbh but it might still be worth paying the address a visit in case he's not been/being honest.

Quick update: Had a text from her about 9 last night, the driver was infact un-insured

No wonder Mommy was texting her to get her to call... disgusting

She said that shes made her claim through insurance and made a statement to the Police :D

I believe from advertising that Direct Line will pay her out and not have it effect her NCB.

Ah yes, http://www.directline.com/motor/uninsured.htm

EDIT- Just noted this is in your original post! lol. Hope she gets everything sorted :)

Yup, tis a good thing that, more insurance companies need to start offering this sort of thing, its another reason I chose them, the place I work for 5/10 calls we take for cars with the driver either having No Licence or Insurance, it's really disturbing :(
