So i just formatted a partition on my HDD, installed the newest build of windows 7, 7057, and every time it boots it will stay on a blank screen after the 'starting windows screen' for ages, like 30 seconds or more (doesnt sound like a lot but it is when you experience it). Also, once it boots it doesnt seem that snappy and i sometimes get hangs in firefox and other programs for no apparant reason. Also, the ram usage right after boot is almost 1GB, and one time the ram usage was stuck at 3.5GB for no apparant reason, no progam in the task manager reported using that much... This is all on a completely fresh install too. I certainly dont think its anything to do with my system:

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm using 7057, the only issues I've come across are Bluescreens when I try to use my Microsoft camera and explorer crashes when I click on the wireless network icon in the taskbar.

Everything else is fine, and I'm not getting any of quirks you have mentioned.

Lots of people are having all sorts of other little issues with various versions of the Beta, so i think you'll just have to live with it, or roll back to a 7000 maybe if you want more stability.

what hard drive do you have

the ram usage is normal, it's called superfetch, it basically caches programs (so actually uses your ram instead of it being useless doing nothing)

when an app needs the ram, it'll release it

superfetch is a good thing

installed all drivers?

tbh i never restart mine, unless it asks me to

S3 sleep mode rocks, takes about 1-2 seconds to boot up form it and uses next to no electricity (and is 100% silent)

Disks dont need drivers.

Have you done a windows update yet? Get all the latest drivers via that, get the latest nvidia drivers and your chipset drivers, get the latest ethernet/wireless drivers bla bla.

I have read a number of posts very similar to that of the OP, over at Neowin and others. For me the experience is identical to that of the OP. When I first grabbed build 7000 and installed that all was well and it ran fine. However build 7057 behaves quite problematic, being both very slow on boot and installation issues / slow running.

IIRC those people who have experienced the above have then installed build 7048 and that was fine for them, although it might not work for everyone.

So i installed my chipset drivers (p35-ds3l) and the very first reboot after installing them, windows booted quickly, the blank screen lasting only 5 seconds or so. But now again its slow to boot. Its really quite annoying.
